Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 5: FLYING SILVER(7)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Garth PULLER

The filly FLYING SILVER has come back really well since a possible injury and she produced a quality last performance, also against male rivals. She was outrun late into 2nd in a strong field that day and clearly still has more to offer. The daughter of Silvano is best handicapped here and she jumps from pole position on her track debut. Furthermore, she will be cherry-ripe and should produce another big performance.

Top Bet
Race 7: JANOOBI(1)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

This season’s Gauteng Guineas victor JANOOBI has this contest tailor-made for him and he should take all the beating. The game Silvano colt didn’t stay any further than the mile in his poor last showing in the Grade 1 on the Highveld but showed his class when keeping a smart field at bay in his penultim- ate start over this distance. He should easily dictate terms from the best draw and his frontrunning tactics should come into great effect today. The Mike de Kock inmate has a score to settle with the Cape visitor COPPER FORCE on their meeting in the ‘Mother City’ on 28/01.

Race 8: NEW PREDATOR(4)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Johan JANSE VAN VUUREN

The defending champion NEW PREDATOR boasts some smart recent form, including staying on for 3rd behind the top class Legal Eagle over a mile in a Grade 1 on the Highveld early last month. He has a distinct advantage, in that most of today’s opposition are preparing for the season and won’t be fully wound-up whilst he will be raring to go. The imported colt is well drawn and should give another great account of himself from a good draw.

Race 9: ROY HAD ENOUGH(13)

Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Frank ROBINSON

This is an interesting final event where the older rivals are clearly limited and could be taught a lesson by their younger rivals. ROY HAD ENOUGH is rated by his conditioner and he made steady progress on his fair debut over this c & d against winners recently. The imported colt was understandably green and should make natural improvement. That formline has worked out really well with the runner-up Procal Harum winning next time out as well as the 6th placed finisher Woljayrine capturing a Grade 3 event subsequently. Top jockey Muzi Yeni should easily negotiate the wide barrier.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY

Race 2: CONCEALED SECRET(3)

Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Sean TARRY

The Valcar formline could hold up strong in this small field and there was much to like about the debut of CONCEALED SECRET in open company over this trip at Scottsville that day. The inmate from the Tarry yard drifted alarmingly in the betting market and he lost ground at the start but moved up menacingly before racing green and tiring in the latter stages. He has exactly three lengths to find on the promising import TROJAN HARBOUR on that performance but would have come on hugely from the experience and will be an entirely different proposition today. The son of A P Answer jumps from pole and this track could suit his short but effective burst of speed, particularly if he jumps on terms.
