Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: SEA URCHIN(3)
Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Garth PULLER

SEA URCHIN bounced back to form with a strong finish for a close 3rd in a similar handicap over seven furlongs on this track recently. He escaped without punishment for that display and can take full advantage now. His yard is in good form and the bay gelding will benefit from blinkers over this slightly shorter trip.

Race 4: REDCARPET CAPTAIN(1)
Jockey: Warren KENNEDY – Trainer: Gareth VAN ZYL

REDCARPET CAPTAIN maintained his unbeaten record on this surface when getting up on the line to beat the speedy AL CIBERANO (3kgs worse off) over this c & d in his comeback run, seven weeks ago. The gelding has certainly revived the career of the son of Captain Al who will be fitter today. He is the yard’s only entrant on the card and can defy top weight. The likely blistering gallop will suit him well.

TOP BET

Race 7: CHARISMA(5)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

CHARISMA had two fair local starts in the province and she may have finished a little closer on the grass last time but for being carried out in the latter stages. The well-bred filly made eye-catching late headway on her track debut over six furlongs in her penultimate showing but will be more effective over this distance. The Kannemeyer inmate will be cherry-ripe on her third run after the layoff and she can make amends with top jockey Delpech retaining the ride.

Race 8: ARCHILLES(7)

Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer:

There are quite a few form runners in this final event and a close finish is expected. ARCHILLES was coming to hand nicely prior to being withdrawn for coughing on 07/10 but his conditioner is obviously pleased with his recovery since. The son of Captain Al got going late to finish a good 4th behind My Pal Al (close 2nd in feature subsequently) over seven furlongs on this track last time out. The runner-up of that event Night Chapel just lasted to win next time out and today’s step-up to the mile should be ideal for this three-year-old bay colt. Top jockey Anton Marcus has been engaged from a handy draw.
ARCHILLES(7)

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: SUNDARI(11)

Jockey: Eric S NGWANE – Trainer: Kumaran NAIDOO

SUNDARI is an interesting recruit to the Kom Naidoo yard as the veteran gelding races off his paltry grass rating on his polytrack and local debut today. The former Gauteng resident produced his best displays on the sand so may have an affinity for this surface. He beat a decent field over this trip in a Kimberley feature in his penultimate outing and can cause a big upset, if he handles this track. He jumps from a good draw and has a light weight.

SUNDARI(11)
