Winning Form brings you their best horse racing tips from Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Wednesday 29 January 2020. Comments, betting, and silks are provided! Tips provided come from Winning Form, as well as their back page tipster.

IT’S ALL POISED IN THE SUMMER CHALLENGE WITH ONE MONTH TO GO

“What Hollywoodbets are doing for racing is like a breath of fresh air.” That is the word from leading jockey on the Hollywoodbets KZN Sizzling Summer Challenge jockeys log, Anton Marcus.

Marcus, who is nine points ahead of Warren Kennedy, was happy that he is leading but is wary of the challengers.

“The lead can change in the space of one meeting – anything can happen,” he explained.

Marcus, who has ridden 28 winners from 80 rides in the competition, hopes that he can go all the way and mentioned that if he is in contention with a few meetings to go, he will try and get more rides.

Winning Form-sponsored and Championship leading jockey Warren Kennedy said that he will challenge all the way to the last race meeting, as he is focused on the competition.

“Every horse I ride nationally I try my best to win on. My main aim is the National Championship, but I am also focused on the Challenge,” he explained.

Kennedy, who has 16 winners from his 98 rides in the competition, said that what Hollywoodbets are doing for racing ‘is amazing’.

“It’s very nice. The fields are growing and it’s great for racing,” he explained.

Leading trainer Garth Puller, who has a 52 point lead ahead of trainer Paul Lafferty, is pleased with his results.

Puller, who has had 12 winners from his 84 runners, is pleased that he is at the top of the log and says that being sponsored by Hollywoodbets makes it feel even better.

“It feels really good. I am happy with the results,” said Puller.

Puller is another that is aware that a lead in this competition cannot be taken for granted.

“On a Sunday I have 13 runners, then on a Wednesday I have two –  it can change very easily,” Puller explained.

Puller is another that praised Hollywoodbets for the competition saying that their marketing is outstanding and labelled the competition ‘a fantastic initiative’.

Trainer Paul Lafferty said that the Hollywoodbets Sizzling Summer Challenge is the best thing that has happened to racing.

Lafferty, who has had 8 winners from his 64 runners, said that he doesn’t have the numbers to beat Puller.

“Puller has a lot of horses and is a good trainer. It will be tough but I am trying,” Lafferty explained.

Aside from the trainers’ log, Lafferty is also on top of the horses challenge with Bint El Malak.

The daughter of King’s Chapel won her maiden on the first day of the competition and then went on to finish second twice, and then won again.

Lafferty said that she is in a good place at the moment.

“She’s sound and happy and she will win a few races,” he added. Lafferty said that the best part of this log is the joy the owners feel when they see their horses’  name at the top of the log.

There is just one month to go in the challenge and with the various logs tightly contested, racing at Hollywoodbets Greyville and Hollywoodbets Scottsville should never be missed.

Winning Form Best Bets (Computerised Selections)
Race 1: HARDWIRED (6)
Race 2: GLITTER AND GOLD (11)
Race 4: MOON IN JUNE (5)
Race 7: LA VALETTE (11)
Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: HARDWIRED (6)

Jockey: S Randolph – Trainer: M Miller

There is only one horse that has raced in this field and the rest are all first-timers. HARDWIRED made the natural improvement in his second outing when finishing 1.4 lengths behind Princekresh, who looks to be a decent sort. The son of Oratorio stayed on well that day over this distance and may have more to come. With experience on his side, he may be the one that they all have to beat. With regards to the unraced horses, the betting market will be a good guide with regards to their chances.

TOP BET FOR TODAY
Race 2: GLITTER AND GOLD (11)

Jockey: K de Melo – Trainer: Janse van Vuuren

GLITTER AND GOLD has finished runner-up in her last three starts. She raced from a prominent position last time and stayed on well at the finish. Keagan de Melo knows the daughter of Oratorio well and the pair may be rewarded for consistency this afternoon.

Race 6: WASHINGTON SQUARE (8)

Jockey: J Jacobs – Trainer: W Nel

WASHINGTON SQUARE is in very good form. He should have gone closer to winning last time, but cost himself by hanging in the closing stages. His record over this distance is good with a win, a second and a third-place finish from four starts. Jabu Jacobs knows the speedy son of Seventh Rock well and the pair may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.

Race 7: COYOTE GIRL (10)

Jockey: S Randolph – Trainer: Janse van Vuuren

COYOTE GIRL is in top form. She finished her last race off strongly to be narrowly denied victory. The daughter of Var is having her first run at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. Her record over this distance is good with three wins, four seconds and a third-place finish from thirteen outings. Stuart Randolph was aboard in two of those victories and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure once again.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY

Race 3: MAMMA’S BOY (12)
Jockey: S Randolph – Trainer: A Rivalland

MAMMA’S BOY produced a fair debut over the minimum trip on this course. He lost two lengths at the start that day, but the manner in which he finished his race off was encouraging. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Elusive Fort would have gained from the experience and with natural improvement that is expected, he should be involved in the finish.
