International Racing: Gulfstream Park – Saturday 04 April 2020 (Turf/Dirt)

This is the third meeting in a row to take place at Gulfstream Park. A twelve-race programme includes some good races where there will be some short-priced that should be hard to beat. The best bet is LITTLE BELLA in Race 5. She has finished runner-up in her last two starts after winning on debut. She looks hard to beat today.

Race 1
DUELLIST produced a good stable debut when finishing third over this course and distance. He didn’t have the clearest of passages that day, but once seeing daylight, he finished his race off well. With a bit of luck in running and with Tyler Gaffalione in the saddle, he should get it right this afternoon. PUNCHLINE showed some improvement in his last start over this course and distance. He raced from a handy position that day but lacked extra up the straight. This is not the most competitive field and he should be right there in the run down to the wire if repeating his latest effort.

Race 2
PUPPI THE HUNTER has finished runner-up in his last two starts over this course and distance. He moved up really well last time but found one too good on the day. If repeating his latest effort in this field, he should be the one they all have to beat today. MILLIONAIRE RUNNER came from some way back when finishing third in his last start over this course and distance. If he doesn’t have too much ground to make up when they head for home, he may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.

Race 3
BELLA GIANNA is the value bet on today’s programme. She was a tad disappointing in her last start over the minimum trip on this course last time. Her form prior to that effort was good and the run that catches the eye is when she finished second over this course and distance on 5 October last year. She is battling to crack a good draw recently but could still be the one to cause the upset. TOONIE LOONIE has shown good signs of returning to best form in her last two starts. She found one too good in her last start but runs well on this course and cannot be left out of any bets.

Race 4
W W ARCHIE showed nice improvement in his last start over this course and distance. He raced from a handy position that day and stayed on well at the business end of the race. Angel Rodriguez retains the ride and with further natural progression that is expected, he should go close to winning here. WAR ACT was not beaten far in his last two starts. Despite racing five wide around the turn last time, he finished his race off very well. He does have another deep barrier position to contend with today but cannot be ignored.

Race 5
LITTLE BELLA is the best bet on today’s card and looks very hard to beat. She was an impressive winner on debut and followed that up with two good second-place finishes. She will enjoy a good tempo that is expected and will be mowing down the frontrunners in the run down to the finishing post. It is encouraging that she is drawn in pole position and that Joel Rosario does duty. MOON EYES has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She received a bump at the start last time, but the manner in which she finished off her race was encouraging. Luis Saez steps back aboard the daughter of Kantharos and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 6
BARDOT is an unraced daughter of Candy Ride from the Todd Pletcher stable. She has improved with each breeze-up leading into this race and if not too green, can begin her career on a winning note. It is encouraging that Luis Saez takes the ride on debut. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances. KOZY DREAMS could be the first raced runner past the post. She showed good improvement in her last start over six furlongs on this course. She stayed on well at the finish that day and if repeating that effort, she should be right there in the run down to the finish.

Race 7
IM THE CAPTAIN NOW showed good signs of returning to best form in his last start. He was running on powerfully at the finish that day and if confirming his recent improvement, he can go one better this afternoon. CROW MOON is returning from a lengthy absence. He produced some decent form prior to the break. He runs well over this distance with a second and a third-place finish from as many outings. He has had a good few decent breeze-ups leading into his return race and should be at peak fitness. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 8
GHOSTLY BEAUTY is a daughter of Noble Mission who has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She raced from a handy position in her last start, fought hard but the winner had just a bit more firepower where it matters most. She has finished second in all three of her starts over this distance and looks to be the one to side with here. LOOKINLIKEAQUEEN won her last start well over this course and distance. She beat the top selection in that race, but the interesting point is that Luis Saez who won her that day, has opted to ride the first choice. There should not be much separating the pair once again.

Race 9
MOBEATYABAD was an impressive maiden winner when beating the second-placed horse by over thirteen lengths last time. He does take on much stronger opposition today, but the manner in which he won suggests there is tons more to come. He is drawn in pole position and may be too strong for today’s line-up. CIGAR BOX was also an easy maiden winner in his last start. He set the pace that day and found more at the top of the lane to win by 5.75 lengths. He takes a rise in class today, but he is lightly raced and looks to have scope. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 10
FIRST PREMIO is slowly coming back to best form. The amount of ground he made up over this distance in his last start was fascinating. He does make his course debut this afternoon and if suited to the track, he should be the one they all have to beat. He has finally cracked a good draw and that could be what he needs to get over the line in front. KROY has some decent recent form to his credit. His record over this distance is good with three wins, three seconds and two thirds from eleven attempts. From his good draw of two, he is likely to race up with the pace and may be hard to peg back in the closing stages.

Race 11
I’LL FIGHT DEMPSEY was an impressive winner on debut over six furlongs on this course. He set the pace and kept well clear of the rest of the field. With this step up in distance today which should pose no problems, he does take on stronger but could be anything and should take the power of beating. SONNEMAN showed good improvement with each outing and won his maiden well last time. Despite racing six wide, he managed to finish his race off strongly. It is encouraging that Joel Rosario rides in his first run out the maidens and the pair cannot be ignored.

Race 12
AVENIDA MANANA is a daughter of Street Boss that has won her last three starts. She raced up with the pace in her last outing and got up where it matters most. She has won three times and finished second once from five starts over this distance and should notch up her sixth career victory. SWEET STORY finished just a head behind the top selection in her last start. She was doing her best work late on that occasion and has cracked a good draw this afternoon. That should allow her to race closer to the pace. There should not be much separating the pair once again in the run down to the finishing post.
