He has been running on strongly in his last three starts when finishing second twice and third once. He gets the services of Joao Moreira for the first time tonight and should get rewarded for consistency. The fight for the Jockey’s Championship is still hot as ever with Moreira only two winners ahead of Zac Purton. Both jockeys have a competitive book of rides this evening and must be followed closely.

The big news of the week is the rescinding of South African jockey Grant van Niekerk’s license, due to a domestic issue that is unrelated to race riding/conduct. As such, he has been replaced on all his rides at Wednesday’s meeting.

Best Bet: SIMPLY FLUKE (Race 4)
Value Bet: CHARITY GRAND (Race 2)

Race 1
DIONYSUS COLLIN is in very good form and loves racing at the Valley. He has a record four seconds and a third-place finish from six outings on this course. He received a bump at the start last time and was only beaten by half a length at the wire. He runs well over tonight’s distance and despite his wide barrier position, he looks to be the one to side with here. PLAY WISE was not disgraced in his last start when taking on stronger. He was bumped at the start but made up good ground up the straight that day. He gets the services of a claiming apprentice tonight and with a bit of luck in running, he may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection. PARTY TOGETHER has been taking on stronger opposition recently. He drops in class tonight and gets the services of Matthew Poon who will take some weight off his back. On best form shown, he could be the one to cause the upset. EVERYONE’S ELITE has finished second in his last five starts. He steps up to the nine furlongs for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 2
CHARITY GRAND is the value bet on tonight’s card. He should have finished closer in his last start over seven furlongs at Sha Tin. He was bumped at the 200m mark, but boxed on nicely in the closing stages. Yet to be unplaced from three starts over this course and distance, Joao Moreira does duty for the first time and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most. LET’S TAKE IT EASY has not finished too far behind the winner in recent outings. Despite having to check at the 350m mark last time, he rallied well to finished third. Zac Purton knows him well and the pair merit healthy respect. HAPPY WARRIOR is coming back to best form of late. Despite racing three-wide last time, he finished his race off well. He runs well for jockey Neil Callan and the pair should be right there in the run down to the winning post. FUN TIMES has decent form to his credit. He tries the distance for the first time and if seeing out the extra trip, he should be involved in the fight out to the finish.

Race 3
MASTER ALBERT won his last two starts over this course and distance well. He has a good record under tonight’s pilot Karis Teetan which includes two wins, two seconds and two third-place finishes from nine outings. He does have a wide draw to overcome tonight, but Teetan is likely to settle him at the back and make him do his best work up the straight. The hat-trick is very much on the cards. SUPER ALLIANCES was not beaten far in his last start over this course and distance. His penultimate run can best be ignored as he was reported to be lame. Joao Moreira steps back into the saddle today and on best form shown, should pose a threat to the top selection. HARMONY N HOME ran a good race last time despite being bumped at the start. He does have a deep barrier position to overcome, but with Zac Purton back in the saddle, he should get all the necessary assistance from the saddle. LUCKY QUALITY was a tad disappointing in his last start after producing a cracking debut effort over this course and distance. He may be better suited to this distance at this stage of his career and could be the one to cause the upset.

Race 4
SIMPLY FLUKE is the best bet on tonight’s card and looks very hard to beat. He raced three wide in his last start but managed to finish his race off strongly. He does have a wide draw to contend with, but Moreira is likely to switch him off at the back of the field and make him do his best work up the home straight. WOOD ON FIRE is coming back to best form. The manner in which he has finished off his last two races is encouraging and he cannot be ignored in this field. GUNNAR has very good consistent formlines to his credit. He set the pace in his last start but was caught very late in the race. He gets the services of a claiming apprentice this evening and may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. AMAZING’S last three runs have been very good. He won his penultimate race over this course and distance under Zac Purton and if repeating that effort, should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 5
DIAMOND BRILLIANT has finished runner-up in his last two starts over this course and distance. He moved up like a winner last time but was caught in the final 80m of that race. Joao Moreira knows the son of Not A Single Doubt well and the pair may be rewarded for consistency this evening. PING HAI GALAXY is much better than his last run over this course and distance suggests. He won his penultimate outing when rallying late and if repeating that run under Chad Schofield, he should be right there in the run down to the finishing post. JUMBO HAPPINESS returned to best form when winning his last start over this course and distance under Neil Callan. If repeating that run tonight, he has a good chance of notching up a quick double. SUNSET WATCH hasn’t got the best recent form, but he has been taking on stronger company. He drops back in class this evening and on best form shown, he should run into the minor money.

Race 6
AMAZING KIWI showed good signs of returning to best form in his last start over this course and distance, under Karis Teetan. Despite an awkward start and receiving a bump on the back straight, he stayed on well at the business end of the race. With a bit of luck in running, he has a good chance of going one better this evening. VERY SWEET ORANGE has won his last three starts well. He set the pace in his last two starts and has kept all challengers at bay. He jumps from a good draw once again and may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. LARSON has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He stayed on well at the finish of his last start and if repeating that effort today, he should be right there in the run down to the wire. BE READY should have finished closer to the winner in his last start over six furlongs on this course. He stayed on well at the finish despite the fact that he got interfered with late on in the race. He drops to the minimum trip for the first time and if the distance if not too sharp for him, he may be one to fight out the finish.

Race 7
HOLY HEART has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He made eye-catching late progress in his last start, but just missed where it matters most. He drops back to the 1650m where he has finished second twice and third once from four starts. Zac Purton retains the ride and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. SMOOTHIES won his first race in Hong Kong at the third time of asking. He set the pace that day and held on where it matters most. Derek Leung remains in the saddle and the pair should pose a big threat to the top choice. FLASH FAMOUS has won his last two starts well over this course and distance under Joao Moreira. If continuing his good run of form, the hat-trick is very much on the cards. GREEN REIGN has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He tries the 1650m for the first time and if suited to the extra distance on offer, he has a good chance of running into the money.

Race 8
THIS IS CLASS has very good consistent formlines to his name. He set the pace in his last two starts and kept fighting all the way to the finish line. He runs well for Vincent Ho, with a record of four wins and two second-place finishes from as many outings. He has the speed to overcome his wide barrier position and should be hard to peg back in the closing stages. STRONGER’S last start at Sha Tin was fair after winning his penultimate race over this course and distance. Zac Purton rides the son of Not A Single Doubt once again and the pair should pose a big threat to the top choice. HONG KONG BET’S last two starts have been decent. He runs well over this distance with a record of two wins and a second-place finish from five attempts. Karis Teetan has had success aboard the son of Smart Missile in the past and the pair merit healthy respect. WINNER SUPREME has very good consistent formlines on the All-Weather surface. He likes to set the pace in his races and if transferring his form onto the turf, he can run into the minor money.
