International Racing: Hawkesbury – Thursday 21 May 2020

International Racing: Wednesday 20 May 2020 – Sunshine Coast

A small, but competitive eight-race programme is scheduled for Hawkesbury on Thursday. The best bet is EAST ASIA in Race 5. She won impressively on debut on this course and followed it up with a good third place finish. She should enjoy the step up in distance and should be hard to beat this afternoon.

Race 1
ALAKAHAN produced a good comeback run when finishing
fourth over a mile at Kembla Grange, three weeks ago. The son of Motivator will
enjoy the rise in distance this afternoon and should strip a much fitter horse.
2kg claiming apprentice Brandon Griffiths retains the ride and from pole
position, the combination should be the ones to side with here. SEND ME WILD is a filly taking on the males. She has finished fifth in both her
outings at Kembla Grange. She should have finished closer to the winner last
time as she was held up till the 250m mark. Once finding running room, she
finished her race off strongly. The daughter of Hallowed Crown will enjoy the
step up in distance and with a bit of luck in running, should pose a threat to
the top selection.
Race 2
SPIRIT WORLD made the expected natural improvement when
finishing second over six furlongs at Newcastle last time. She raced from a
handy position that day and stayed on well at the business end. The daughter of
Ocean Park does try a little further this afternoon, which should suit her
well. She makes her course debut and if suited to the track, should be the one
they all have to beat. CHEWIE TWO
has finished second in his last two
starts at Goulburn. He raced from a handy position over six furlongs last time
and stayed on well in the closing stages. Kathy O’Hara retains the ride aboard
the son of Uncle Mo and the pair merit obvious inclusion.
Race 3
SIAN is the value bet on this afternoon’s card.
He produced a promising debut effort when finishing fourth at Newcastle over
six furlongs. He was his own worst enemy that day as he didn’t settle in the
early stages. He would have gained from the experience and should make the
natural improvement this afternoon. The son of Pride Of Dubai jumps from a
handy barrier position and with Jay Ford in the saddle, should be right there
at the finish. OBSCENE is still a maiden after ten starts, but she
has not finished too far off the winner recently. Her form this season is
decent having finished second once and third on three occasions from seven
outings. She jumps from pole position this afternoon and should be the one to
throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.
Race 4
TRIESTE finished under a length behind the winner
when returning from a 20-week break last time. She was unlucky not to have won
that day as she had to switch at a crucial stage in the straight. The daughter
of Fastnet Rock should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and with a bit
of luck in running, may be the one they all have to beat. WILD SHEILA produced some good consistent form before given a long 33-week lay-off.
She has finished second once and third once from as many starts on this course.
Fitness should not be an issue for the daughter of Animal Kingdom as she has
had two fair barrier trials coming into this race. Should the top selection
fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
Race 5
EAST ASIA is the best bet on today’s programme. She won
her debut effort well over 1100m on this course and followed that up with a
good third-place finish at Gosford, three weeks ago. It must be noted that the
form of her last race has been franked. The manner in which she finishes off
her races suggests that she will enjoy the step up to the seven furlongs. She
gets the winkers fitted for the first time and if the headgear has the desired
effect, she should take a power of beating. SOLID FOUNDATION followed
her maiden victory up with a decent effort over 1300m at Goulburn last time.
She is having her peak run this afternoon and should be cherry-ripe. From her
good draw of three, she should be one of the leading contenders for the
placings.

Race 6
SNITZIFY has produced two good runs since given an
18-week break. He raced from a handy position in his last start over six
furlongs at Kembla Grange and fought hard all the way to the finishing post.
The manner in which he finished off the race that day suggests that he will
enjoy the extra furlong on offer this afternoon. He is having his peak run here
and should be cherry-ripe. From pole position, he should find himself in the
winner’s enclosure. ATLANTIC KING
is lightly raced having had the
four runs to date. He was given a 28-week break after his last start, during
which time he would have strengthened up. He should have no issues with regards
to fitness as he has produced two good barrier trials coming into this race.
The son of More Than Ready must be included in all bets.
Race 7
BRAZEN GEM was an impressive winner of his last two
starts over the minimum trip. He raced from a mid-field position last time,
kept grinding away in the last 200m and was just too powerful for other
challengers in the run down to the wire. It must be noted that the form of that
race has been franked. He is having his second run after a rest today and
should have more to come. Brandon Lerena keeps the ride and he can notch up the
hat-trick. COOL WORLD was a tad disappointing in his last start
after winning two races in a row prior to that, both of which were over this
distance. It must be noted that two horses from his last race have come out and
won since. With a bit of luck from his wide barrier position, he may be the one
to pose the biggest threat to the top selection.
Race 8

This is an open Class
1 Handicap to close off the meeting and caution is advised. The tentative first
selection is
ENCOSTAR GLORY from the Paul Perry
yard. Her last two starts over 2300m at Newcastle were good. She has won once,
finished second once and third once from six starts this season. She gets the
services of Shaun Guymer for the first time and he may be able to coax that
little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
ROND DE JAMBE has not finished too
far off the winner in recent outings. She should have finished even closer last
time but had traffic problems at the top of the straight. It must be noted that
the form of that race has been franked. With a bit of luck in running, she
should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.
