International Racing: Launceston – Wednesday 01 April 2020

International Racing: Launceston – Wednesday 01 April 2020

An eight-race programme consists of some races with small fields. There are one or two short-priced favourites on the day that look hard to beat.

Other International Racing tips for Wednesday:

RHODE AWAY is the best bet on the card. He followed his maiden in up with a good effort and in a weak field, looks tough to beat. The jockeys that are worth following for this meeting are Craig Newitt and Bulent Muchu.

Best Bet: RHODE AWAY (Race 4)
Value Bet: HOLY DIAMOND (Race 7)

Race 1
CATCH ME PADDY has finished runner-up in his last two starts. He moved up well in his last start over seven furlongs on this course but was outrun close to home. He will enjoy the drop back in distance today and in this type of field, looks hard to beat. LOUISVILLE was not beaten far when finishing sixth on debut over this course and distance. The son of Hussonet would have come on from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be right there in the run down to the wire. Sigrid Carr who was in the saddle on debut retains the ride which is a big plus as he would have learnt a lot from the first outing.

Race 2
RED ROGER showed good improvement in his last two starts over six furlongs on this course. The manner in which he finished off those races suggests that he will relish the extra furlong on offer today. Daniel Ganderton who was aboard the son of Mawingo in his penultimate outing jumps back aboard and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. SUPALOPO produced a promising debut effort over the six furlongs on this course. He hit the line strongly that day and will enjoy the extra furlong on offer. He would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should pose a big threat to the top choice.

Race 3
A small field of just five runners head to post for this handicap race and a mare could come to the fore. LOUISE has placed in her last three starts on this course. She has a good record over today’s distance with three wins and three second-place finishes from ten attempts. She is likely to race up with the speed today and may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. NEEDS A CROWN could be the first gelding home. He just won a Class 1 race last time and makes his handicap debut this afternoon. Daniel Ganderton knows him well and should the top rating fluff her lines, the pair should be right there to pick up the pieces.

Race 4
RHODE AWAY is the best bet on today’s card. He followed up his maiden win with a good effort over this type of distance last time. He does not meet the strongest opposition today and with David Pires retaining the ride, the pair should be tough to beat. A TAD MORE is a filly taking on the males and has produced moderate form since winning her maiden race. She is continuing to drop in the ratings and on best form shown, she could be one of the leading contenders in the fight out for the exacta position.

Race 5
MAG WHEELS has not finished too far behind the winner in recent outings. She is having her first run for her new conditioner today. Her record over this course and distance is decent with a win, three seconds and a third-place finish from seven attempts. If she has settled into her new surroundings, she may be the one they all have to beat. GIVE US A WINNER finished fourth in his last start, just three days ago. He finished second in his two runs prior to that over this distance. If this run has not come a bit too soon, he should throw out a big challenge to the top selection.

Race 6
ROUGH ROAD is in very good form. He won his last start well over a mile on this course. The drop to the seven furlongs should not pose an issue as he has finished second twice from four attempts. Three of his four wins to date have come on this course. If continuing his good run of form, he should be the one they all have to beat. BALEARIC finished third in his last start over this course and distance. He was unlucky not have to won that day as he didn’t have the clearest of passages up the straight. With a bit of luck in running, he should pose the biggest threat to the top one.

Race 7
HOLY DIAMOND is the value bet on today’s card. He has finished runner-up in his last three starts. He is yet to be unplaced over this course and distance with a win and a second-place finish. Craig Newitt who was aboard last time, retains the ride and the pair can go one better this afternoon. LOKI PATERA has produced two good runs since shedding his maiden tag. He raced from a handy position last time and stayed on well at the finish over this distance. It must be noted that the formline of that race has worked out well. Should the top rating fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 8
A small field of just five runners go to post for the final race on the programme. SILKSTONE is in very good form. He just missed when starting favourite in his last start over this distance, four days ago. He is yet to be unplaced on this course with a record of two seconds and a third-place finish. If this race has not come too soon, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure. NIELSON needed his last run after returning from a 38-week break. His record over this course and distance is encouraging with two wins, three seconds and a third-place finish from ten starts. He should strip a much fitter horse for today’s race and may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge.
