Racing is quite open with regards to the jockey bookings on the day, but the standouts look to be Brad Pengelly, Martin Haley and Tasha Chambers.

Best Bet: SUCH A WHIT (Race 3)
Value Bet: FOLLOW ON (Race 8)

Race 1
ASK ME TOMORROW produced a promising debut when finishing runner-up over 1050m at Rockhampton. He was finishing his race off strongly that day and will enjoy the step up to the six furlongs. He would have come on from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he looks like the one that will take a power of beating. EMILEE’S EMPIRE is a filly taking on the males. She has finished runner-up in her last three starts since returning from a 13-week absence. She gets the services of regular pilot Tasha Chambers and the pair should pose a big threat to the top selection.

Race 2
BRAD posted a very good comeback run in his last start. He fought hard and battled all the way to the line, but was outgunned in the final 75m. He should strip much fitter for today’s race and looks to be the one to side with here. MACKENZIE COUNTRY has fair form to his credit. He has his first run for his new stable and takes a drop in distance this afternoon. Brad Pengelly rides the son of Magnus today which is a big plus. If he has settled into his new surroundings, he could be one of the leading contenders for the placings.

Race 3
SUCH A WHIT made the natural improvement in his last start over this distance at Sunshine Coast. He moved up like a winner that day but just ran out of puff in the closing stages. He returns from a 17-week break this afternoon, during which time he would have strengthened up. He has his first start for the Bannon yard and if not in need of this outing, he should take a power of beating. MAGIC CODY is the stable companion of the top selection. He too is having his first run for the stable. He comes into the race with fair form to his name. It must be noted that two horses from his last formline have come out and won since. If fit and well, he may be the one to pose the biggest threat to the top one.

Race 4
The John Manzelmann stable holds a strong hand in this contest and could go home with the exacta. The narrow first selection is HARRY ROCKET who was not beaten far in his last three starts. He had every chance of winning his last start, but was just beaten in the shadow of the post. There doesn’t seem to be much pace in the race and he could have his own way in front. He may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. HARD CURRENCY with Martin Haley in the saddle has produced two fair efforts thus far and is having his first run for his new conditioner. If has settled into the new surroundings well, he should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 5
PARISIAN TYCOON produced good form before given a 19-week break. He looked a winner in his last start but found one too good in the late stages of that race. He runs well on this course with a win and a second-place finish from three outings. Brad Pengelly who has been aboard the son of Denmarket in his last two starts retains the ride and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. LIEUTENANT’S last start was good. He was running on at the finish that day but found one too good on the day. It must be noted that the form of that race has worked out well. Tasha Chambers does duty this afternoon and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 6
ONLY WANNA SING was a beaten favourite in his last start over 1300m on this course. He is suited to today’s drop in distance as he has won once and finished second four times from seven attempts. He does have a wide barrier position to contend with, but he gets the services of Brad Pengelly who should use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy. TA CHANNON has produced two fair efforts since winning three starts ago. His best form has been at this track with two wins, two seconds and a third-place finish from eight outings. Trinity Bannon who trains the gelding, also rides today and the pair merit obvious inclusion.

Race 7
STRAWBERRY BLONDE has very good form to her name. She was running on well at the finish in her last start over this distance at Gold Coast. She is having her first run on this course today and if suited to the style of track, she could get back to winning ways. The daughter of Dream Ahead is drawn in pole position which is a big positive. LUCKY BEE set the pace in her last start, but was outrun in the late stages of the race. She has a decent record over this distance with two seconds and two thirds from six attempts. She is likely to have to own way in front once again and may be hard to peg back in the closing stages.

Race 8
FOLLOW ON is the value bet on today’s card. He is a two-time winner who returns from a 24-week rest. That should not pose an issue as he has won first up in the past. He is yet to be unplaced over this distance and looks to be the one to cause the upset under Girish Goomany. GRAND DE LAGO won at long odds in his last start. He raced from a handy position that day and kept finding all the way to the line. If repeating that effort this afternoon, he could be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 9
This is an open contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection goes to MUSTARRID from the Olivia Cairns stable. He is an eleven-time winner, seven of which have been over today’s distance. He is a versatile sort that can race in any type of going and may be the one they all have to beat here. HADRIAN won his last start well over this course and distance. From his mid-field draw, he is likely to switch off early and do his best work up the straight. Should the top selection fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 10
SHIRANDA was in need of his last outing when returning from a 29-week lay-off. He won his only attempt in this class. The son of Bernardini is having his second run after a rest and should strip much fitter. On best form shown, he looks to be the one to side with here. WALK THE TALK’S last two efforts have been fair. He has a decent record over this distance with a win, a second and two third-place finishes from six outings. From his mid-field barrier position, he is likely to race up with the speed and should be right there in the run down to the finishing line.
