Race 5
A 4yr
old and a 3yr old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete
the exacta, but today’s best bet, WHATSIN is taken as the firm
top choice. She followed up her penultimate run victory over 1300M with a
seventh place finish next time out over seven furlongs, just over a length and
a half behind the winner, this despite racing three wide. She has her peak run
here after returning from an 18 week rest and will jump from a handy draw four.
LOVETHEINVASION won
by four and a half lengths on debut over seven furlongs, so clearly has some
ability. She had had two barrier trial before that outing, but there should
still be more improvement to come. She will have to negotiate a wide gate ten,
but nevertheless should keep the top choice honest. FROM THE HIP went
from jump to wire to win his maiden race last time out over 1300M by just over
a length and a half. He takes on stronger here, but has drawn gate two and
could well be up to the task on hand.
Race 6
Two 4yr
old fillies and a 5yr old mare could dominate the finish to this contest and secure
the trifecta. Although ELEGANT GRACE is recorded as finishing fifth last
time out over 1100M, she was just over half a length back from the winner. She
jumped awkwardly that day, but made good late progress over the closing stages,
suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to her liking. She has
gate seven and is taken to be the value bet on the program. DANCING DOLLAR showed
marked improvement when staying on well to win her last start over six furlongs
by a short-head when returning from a 16 week break. She has cracked pole
position and should threaten the top pick. LOCHITA returns
from a lengthy 37 week absence, but has had four barrier trials, finishing
second in the last two. She did win his last start over a mile by over one and
a half lengths before the rest and the form of that race has been franked. From
gate nine, she should be included in all bets.
Race 7
The
fillies appear to have the upper hand in this race as well and two 3yr fillies could
once again make up the exacta. WATER DOVE returns from a 25 week
break and has not had the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have
to be taken on trust. She did however win by a head on debut over 1110M, this
despite being friendless in the betting markets. She would have strengthened
during her rest and will have learnt from that first outing and could prove
good enough to complete her double in this line-up. She will be helped by a
handy gate four. DOMINANT LADY battled
all the way down to the wire when winning her maiden race last time out over
900M. She is drawn one inside the former and could emerge has her biggest
threat. RUMPSHAKER had to be held up
entering the straight before finishing second over five furlongs in his last
outing, just a neck behind the winner. He is a speedy sort who should use that
good early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
Race 8
EXPELLABLE was
only run out of it very late when ending up second in his last start over six
furlongs, just a head behind the winner. On that effort and from gate six, he
should relish the drop in trip. OWHATA CRUMPET is
a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she has her hat-trick run here after
winning her last start over five furlongs by half a length, despite being
bumped at the start and being forced to race four wide. She faces a wide gate
fourteen, but she should give the boys a good run for their money. ELEAZAR was
hampered between the 250M and 50M mark and did well to get within two lengths
of the winner last time out over five furlongs. The gelding has drawn gate
seven and should make his presence felt in this field.
