International Racing: Sunday 19 April 2020 – Gawler

International Racing: Happy Valley – Wednesday 15 April 2020

An intriguing 8-race programme awaits punters at Gawler on Sunday 19 April 2020. WITH PLEASURE should give punters some early confidence and a slightly bigger bank balance, when she goes to post in the 3rd race. She looks well suited to the extra ground and should have plenty more scope to build on that impressive win last time out. A few others stand out later on but see more here.

Race 1 – 05:40 – 1500m – Maiden Plate
NORDIC PRIDE is picked to land the opener on the programme. The 3-year old son of Zoffany enjoyed the extra furlong last time out when settling just off the early pace, before flashing home late for a well deserved 2nd place. That was just his 3rd outing and over the extra he should be a leading contender at the business end. BOUDOIR followed up that modest debut in March with two solid efforts to find the 2nd box in her last two efforts. Paul Gatt has ridden her on all three occasions, and she should be progressive enough to make here presence felt here. PENTIRE BOY is a natural inclusion on debut, after two eye-catching barrier trials leading up to this. The son of the Gr Champion stakes (2000m) winner, Pentire, will be looking for a bit more ground in time, but on what he has shown he deserves inclusion first up.

Race 2 – 06:20 – 1100m – Maiden Plate
A decent size field will give punters something to think about in the second event on the card. FOUR OF A KIND has been modest after that useful debut over this course and distance. He returns after a 4-month absence here, but he won his most recent trial when showing plenty of speed and if not too in need of this run, he should feature prominently. TULLYS GOLD finished right behind the top selection in his only trial so far and that should bring him on nicely for his debut effort here. The Ryan Balfour inmate is drawn on the right side and must be considered a major threat. LIKE A HEARTBEAT is another debutante who stems from the same recent trial as the top 2 selections. Having finished right behind them, the son of Statue Of Liberty should be a natural inclusion.

Race 3 – 06:50 – 1500m – BM52 Handicap
WITH PLEASURE has been in stand out form in comparison to the majority of this field and the 4-year old daughter of Magnus should be too strong here. She won her most recent effort in similar company and with just 6 starts to her name she should have plenty more to come. AMERICAN STORM gave a solid account of himself last time out, when overcoming a tricky barrier. He led the field through the 400m mark but was unable to sustain that tempo and tired for a 2.1-length defeat. From a slightly better draw here, he should appreciate the extra to find the minor places.

Race 4 – 07:20 – 1200m – BM54 Handicap
ANCIENT HISTORY is another runner that can be followed with a fair amount of confidence. The son of Shamardal has been in solid form over his current campaign and he comes into this race on the back of a useful effort last time out. He had little early speed in that run, but once balanced, he made good late headway for just a 2,3-length beating. From a plum draw this time, he should find the run of the race and make the most of this opportunity. ARCTIC BLAZE appears to be the best of the rest. The 6-year old daughter of Face Value fluffed her lines last time out over this course and distance, when also showing very little pace. That was her peak run after a rest and an eye-catching penultimate run, so she could redeem herself on best form.  VIVALDI’S QUEST is a five-time winner from 30 starts, but the 6-year old gelding has only won twice from 16 attempts at this 1200 trip. With that said, he appears to be next in line on his best form and could be worth including for the minor placings.

Race 5 – 07:50 – 1200m – BM54 Handicap
DEVONTE hasn’t been beaten by far in recent times and the son of Denman caught the eye last time out, when finishing with a wet sail late after being caught back in transit. He will relish the extra 200m here after competing over the 1000m in his last four efforts. With his regular rider back in the irons, he should give his followers a big run for their money and with that, he represents the value bet on the programme. CANIDAE is another contender who caught the eye last time out, when finishing under similar circumstances to the top selection. The son of Foxwedge now drops back to the 1200m, but he won his only attempt over this course and distance and with his ability to race handy, he should present a major threat to the top one. In an open race, it might be worth throwing in the likes of COUNTER SPIN, a 9-year old veteran with 11 wins to his name – 7 of which have come over this trip. He is in useful form and with a win from only two starts over this course and distance, he must be included in wider perms.

Race 6 – 08:20 – 1700m – BM62 Handicap
IKNOW WHERE YOULIVE drops slightly in class after a hard fought 3rd last time out, over slightly further. The 3-year old son of Skilled won both outings prior to that run and this drop in trip should suit his handy running style. With 2 wins and 2 seconds from 9 starts to date, he has more to come and must be worth following. OUTLANDOS has a similar career record to the top selection, with just one more run under the belt. He is also a 3-year old and after a modest effort in a Listed 1800m last time out, he should relish the slight drop in class and distance here. Drawn well, he should be considered. COOL FONZY has a solid record over this trip and he lands a plum draw for his 5th attempt over the 1700m, having won and placed 2nd from 4 attempts so far. He has been in consistent recent form of late and after being caught too far back last time out, he will be looking for a much handier position this time and must rate a threat.

Race 7 – 08:55 – 1500m – BM68 Handicap
HILLS represents a strong first selection here and the 3-year old daughter of Not A Single Doubt has her peak run back after a rest. She was impressive in her penultimate start, when winning in dominating fashion over 1200m. Perhaps a little too far back last time out but she should enjoy the slightly more sedate gallop over this trip. With Toerhoek back in the irons, she looks the one to beat. EXALTED DEE caught the eye last time out, when flashing home late over a similar trip. With 58 runs under her belt, she has yet to be unplaced in three starts over this trip and must included here.

Race 8 – 09:25 – 1100m – BM62 Handicap
DIXON STREET is yet to miss the first three from her 4 outings thus far and the 3-year old daughter of Spirit Of Boom will be looking to build on the handy record here. She hasn’t raced since that useful 2nd in Class 1 company last time out and on the back a decent trial she should have the ability and scope to double here win tally. TRIPLE DEEZ went close to winning in this class last time out, when growing wings to make late progress from the back of the field. The son of Bel Esprit was only beaten by 0,2 lengths in that run and he looks perfectly set up for this bid over slightly extra ground. With Jason Holder retaining, he should be the biggest threat to the top one. Both of EXALTED LAURETTA and ANTRIM’S SECRET have been in good recent form and must be considered on their record over this trip.
