Race 5

FORTIFICATION followed
up his penultimate run victory over this c&d with a short-head second place
finish next time out over the same c&d. He only got a clear run at the 125M
mark that day and was considered an unlucky loser. He jumps from gate seven and
looks to be the one that they all have to beat. NOTIO has
consistent formlines to his name and was making good late progress before
ending up in sixth place last time out over this c&d, but just over one
length behind the winner. He has a handy draw two and could threaten the top
choice. BULLET STORM steps up in trip after staying on well
to finish third in his last outing over 1500M, two and a half lengths adrift of
the victor. On that last performance, he should have no issue going the extra
ground.

Race 6

THE GROVE returns
from a 30 week break and has not had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his
fitness will have to be taken on trust. He did however just miss out on his
hat-trick when finishing well to end up in second place last time out over six
furlongs at this track, 0.8L back from the winner. From his gate four, he
should be right up there in the firing line. DOUBLE MAJOR went
from jump to wire when showing marked improvement to win his last start over
five furlongs by a length. Given his racing style his wide twelve draw may not
be as big a problem and on the plus side, he will get 2kgs taken off his back
thanks to his claiming apprentice.
HARD MERCHANDISE returns
from a 13 week rest and no barrier trial. He had nothing go his way when
finishing fifth in his last outing over five furlongs before the break, losing
two lengths at the start and then racing green, before being bumped at the 150M
pole. He has a far kinder draw six and with better luck in running today, he
should be included in all bets.

Race 7

With
the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the door may have opened for
LANGHRO to
chalk up his eighth career victory. He showed solid improvement to win his last
start over 1250M by putting three and a half lengths between himself and the
balance of the opposition, despite hanging over the latter stages of the race.
He is a speedy sort who should be able to move across from his gate nine
without using up too much energy. He will get the services of ex-SA champion
jockey Jeff Lloyd’s son Jaden, who will be claiming his 2kg apprentice
allowance. REVENIRE has cracked pole position and had his
consistency rewarded with a head victory last time out over the c&d. He
finished well that day and could emerge as the immediate danger to the top
pick. DALON
is drawn one outside the latter and looked a likely
winner when showing good improvement to finish third last time out over six
furlongs, one and a half lengths back from the winner. He was only run out of
it late that day and from draw two, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

OCTOBER STORM has
finished second in his last three runs, the latest over five furlongs where he
ended up one length behind the winner, but he was beaten by the same margin in
his penultimate start over this c&d, so should have no problem taking on
the extra trip. From his draw seven, he will be looking to go one better today.
WHYOULIKETHAT has
only had the two runs to date, winning on debut over five furlongs and then
finishing fifth over the same journey next time out, beaten just over three
lengths. He jumped awkwardly that day and was then hampered as he turned for
home and could perhaps be forgiven for the effort. He will have to negotiate a
wide draw twelve, but he should have improved further and could threaten the
former. CHARMINAR has won three of his last five outings
and although finishing fifth in his last start over 1300M, 4.3L back from the
winner, he did win his penultimate outing over this six furlong trip by half a
length. He has an even wider gate fifteen to overcome, but he nevertheless
should not be lightly dismissed in this line-up.
