International Racing: Wednesday 08 April 2020 – Warwick Farm

International Racing: Monday 05 April 2020 – Ballarat

An eight-race programme is scheduled for Warwick Farm on Wednesday. With the going likely to be heavy, caution is advised. The best bet on the day is in Race 5 in the form of SAKURA. She won her last two starts on this course and if fit and well, she should take a power of beating.

Race 1
CODEBREAKER produced a promising debut when finishing
second over 1100m on this course. He showed some good pace that day, but was no
match for the winner. He would have gained from the experience and with the
natural improvement that is expected, he can go one better here. ELIZABEEL is an unraced Power filly from the John Sargent stable. She has produced
some good barrier trials leading into this race and if not too green on debut,
she should be right there in the run down to the finish. The betting market
will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

Race 2
LANU MOANA is a filly taking on the males. She has
produced three good runs to date and has finished just under a length behind
the winner in her last two starts. It must be noted that the form of her last
race has been franked. Brenton Avdulla who has been aboard her in her last two
starts, retains the ride and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s
enclosure. FLINDERS produced a good comeback run after 14 weeks
off the track. He should have finished closer to the winner that day, but was baulked
for a run at the 300m mark. He should strip much fitter this afternoon and will
pose a big threat to the top selection.

Race 3
SHADOW CRUSH is the value bet on today’s card. He won on
debut at Gosford over the minimum trip when running on well at the finish that
day and should enjoy the extra furlong on offer today. He does take on
stronger, but he would have gained from the experience and could be anything.
He should have no issues with the heavy going as he won in the wet, on debut. INSTANT ATTRACTION is a filly taking on the boys. She had plenty
of hard luck stories in her comeback run last time. She won her only attempt
over this course and distance. She should strip much fitter today and with a
bit of luck in running, should be right there in the run down to the wire.

Race 4
NORDICUS ran a very good race in his first run after
28 weeks off the track. He jumped awkwardly, was bumped shortly after, but the
manner in which he finished was eye-catching. It must be noted that his last
win came under today’s pilot Jean Van Overmeire. He should strip much fitter
for today’s race and can go close.
WITHERSPOON
was just touched off in
her last start over this distance at Randwick. She set the pace that day, but
was caught in the shadow of the post. It must be noted that the form of that
race has been franked. If she has her own way in front today, she may be hard
to peg back in the closing stages.

Race 5
SAKURA is the best bet on today’s card and looks
tough to beat. She won her last two starts before given a well-deserved 24-week
break. She has placed in both her barrier trials coming into this race and
should be at peak fitness. Having won three times from five attempts over this
distance, the trip should be ideal. James McDonald who was aboard in her
penultimate win, steps back into the saddle today. MY DEMETRA produced a very
good comeback run when finishing third in her last start over 1100m, three
weeks ago. She has her first run on this course today and if suited to the
track, should be right there in the run down to the wire.

Race 6
RAINBOW THIEF has good consistent formlines to his name. He
was not disgraced when finishing just over two lengths behind the winner in a
Group 3 contest last time. He drops back to Handicap company today and should
be very hard to beat. It is encouraging that he has won twice from three starts
in heavy going. ROYAL CELEBRATION
won his last start in this class at
Rosehill Gardens over seven furlongs. He has finished second in both his runs
in heavy going. Sam Clipperton knows the son of Excelebration well and the pair
should pose a threat to the top selection.

Race 7
SEGALAS has missed her last two runs due to the
meetings being abandoned. She has produced two good efforts since her 15-week
break and runs well over today’s distance, with a record of two wins from three
attempts. She does take a rise in class, but will carry a handy galloping mass.
Kerrin McEvoy does duty and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s
enclosure. BLACK MAGNUM’S form since his 16-week break has been good. He
was running on well at the finish in his last start over the minimum trip and it
must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If continuing his
good run of form, he should throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.

Race 8
WHISPERED just won his comeback run after 24 weeks off
the track. He didn’t get the best of beginnings that day, but finished his race
off well to win. It must be noted that two horses from that formline have come
out and won since. He does have a wide barrier position to overcome today, but
he should use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much
energy. COME ALONG has not finished too far behind the winner in
recent outings. He was his own worst enemy last time as he didn’t settle in the
early stages. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He
drops back to the mile today and merits healthy respect.
