Winning Form Best Bets
Race 1: DUKE OF DESTINY(5)
Race 3: IT IS WRITTEN(10)
Race 4: RODEO MAGIC(6)
Race 9: MY JELLY BEAN(7)
Race 3: GIFFORD(3) – TOP BET
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Greg ENNION
This contest appears a boat-race between GIFFORD and IT IS WRITTEN, with both runners representing the Black Pegasus formline. The preference though is for Piere Strydom’s mount, especially since he has the experience of racing around the turn. The grey colt has shown plenty of promise to date and he stayed on for third over this c & d in his penultimate outing. He sprinted well when going down half a length into second last time and finished one length ahead of the latter in that contest. The son of Latino Magic jumps from pole position today and should take some beating.
Race 4: SUPREME SUNSET(10)
Jockey: Grant V/NIEKERK – Trainer: Mike BASS
SUPREME SUNSET is coming to hand nicely and she stayed on smartly for a good third over this c & d, seven days ago. The daughter of Western Winter is clearly searching for further but she has lots of scope for improvement and should be very competitive here. She jumps from a midfield barrier and gets the man-of-the-moment, Grant van Niekerk in the irons.
Race 6: SOLAR STAR(3)
Jockey: Karl NEISIUS – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER
There are some smart up-and-coming three-year olds here and this promises to be an exciting contest. SOLAR STAR has won 2 of his 4 career starts and he relished the mile when he kept going to win over this c & d, two weeks ago. That effectively earned him a four pound penalty but he drops slightly in class and has lots of room for improvement. There may not be a decent gallop here but that won’t be a problem for this son of Kahal as he raced right up with the speed in his last outing. He jumps from pole position and quite significantly, Karl Neisius is unbeaten on him from two starts. However, he will get stiff competition today.
Race 8: JET AGLOW(4)
Jockey: Sean CORMACK – Trainer: Dennis DRIER
This is an intriguing contest and the outcome depends on JET AGLOW’s ability to see out this trip. The daughter of Jet Master is top class and she was a comfortable winner of her comeback run, five weeks ago. She was well beaten into second by the top class Beach Beauty in her only run over this trip at the beginning of the year but would have strengthened since. She will strip much fitter today and is best in on official ratings.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Race 7: NO WORRIES(10) (Each Way)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL
This is a very exciting contest that features some highly regarded up-and-coming sorts. NO WORRIES though, has proven himself and he gets the narrow first verdict on his third run after the layoff. The Van Zyl inmate’s fortunes have been transformed since he has been equipped with blinkers and has adopted different tactics. Of course, he almost caused a huge stir when failing by a short head to win last season’s Daily News 2000, before finishing a creditable 4th from a shocking draw in the July. He has had two satisfactory comeback runs on this track this season. He set a cracking gallop and was very game when finishing 4th in the Green Point Stakes over a mile last time out. He has had the ideal prep coming into this event and will be cherry-ripe here. This trip suits the son of Kahal better and he should give a very good account of himself.
