Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Glen HATT – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

ABYSSINIA has finished runner-up in her two promising sprints over this c & d to date. She took on winners on debut and then stayed on in heavy conditions last time out. The daughter of Trippi now takes on older rivals but should have lots more improvement to come and could take some beating in this line-up. She is the clear first pick of the raced runners but the obvious worry is the well-bred newcomers. The Justin Snaith yard has been in great form and they send out two expensive first-timers here.

Race 3: OMATICAYA(9)
Jockey: Grant V/NIEKERK – Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

OMATICAYA had a fair debut over six furlongs and would have come on nicely with the experience. The daughter of Silvano tries the turn today but is aided by a good draw and her pedigree suggests that she will relish the extra furlong. She should have lots of improvement to come and must be respected in this line-up.

Race 4: FLY BY NIGHT(4)
Jockey: Karl NEISIUS – Trainer: Mike BASS

FLY BY NIGHT is a quality sort that is in very good form. She is extremely well treated by the weights in this conditions plate and Karl Neisius knows her well. She was touched off in a listed feature in heavy conditions over six furlongs last time and has almost everything in her favour today. She should take a power of beating but the one concern is the drop to the minimum trip. Both her career victories have come over an extra furlong and she was a close second in her only start over this c & d. She is sure to be at short odds in the betting market so caution should be exercised.

Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Shane HUMBY

MIDNIGHT MASTER has come well in his last two starts. He has finished runner-up twice over this c & in those last two runs and his favourable draw, coupled with Andrew Fortune could help him to go one better.

Race 7: JUST ASK(11) (Each Way)
Jockey: Gareth WRIGHT – Trainer: Eric SANDS

This is yet another interesting contest that features 10 three-year olds and a solitary four-year old, who just happens to be at the bottom of the weights. That certainly makes JUST ASK a lively contender, even if he has flattered to deceive on many occasions. The son of Right Approach has ability but isn’t reliable. He often gets going too late in his races but has a good finish. However, he seemed to enjoy not racing with blinkers last time when he ran on steadily from a wide draw to finish just under two lengths behind SIR ROBERT over this trip in yielding conditions at Durbanville. He meets his conqueror on 2kgs better terms and is more effective on this course. He continues to gradually drop in the ratings and can upset. The latter did well to win last time from a wide draw and is improving. He comes here in search of a hat-trick and is much better drawn this time. However, it is interesting to note that he reserves his best races for Durbanville.
