Race 2: FIGURE OF GREY(2)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The Snaith/Fourie combination could have a major say in the fillies equivalent of the first event on this card. FIGURE OF GREY is a well-bred grey daughter of So You Think out of an Octagonal mare and she should relish stepping up to the mile. She made expected improvement when running on late for a close 5th over six furlongs at Durbanville ten days ago and should continue to improve. That first experience around the turn will be priceless and she should take a power of beating in this ordinary line-up.

Race 3: IMPERIAL DANCER(1)

Jockey: Corne ORFFER – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

It could pay to follow the progress of Pride Rock in the opening contest as the top selection here, IMPERIAL DANCER finished comfortably ahead of that rival over seven furlongs just under one month ago. This son of Elusive Fort is plagued with issues but he is a very capable frontrunner who boasts five seconds from just eight career starts, including two over today’s c & d. He has finally cracked a decent draw and should take some beating in this field.

Race 4: PRUDENCE PREVAIL(2)

Jockey: Grant BEHR – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

This is another intriguing maiden contest but the overdue three-year old filly PRUDENCE PREVAILS could do just that. She has shown more than enough to be a huge contender, particularly over this distance. The daughter of Jay Peg was well beaten into 3rd after a slow start last time but the likely strong gallop of today’s event will suit her and she can make that pole barrier position count.

Top Bet

Race 8: GLORIOUS GOODWOOD(10)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

GLORIOUS GOODWOOD is the full-brother to six-time winner Daring Dave and hardly surprisingly, he made smart improvement over this c & d, second time out. The Dynasty colt ran on well for 3rd in soft conditions in that big field and he clearly has lots more to offer.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: GIFT OF RAIN(9)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

This is the first of the day’s handicaps and a low-key one at that. That said, the IN LIMINE c & d formline on 18/06 could be a good guide. The five-year old Galileo mare, GIFT OF RAIN enjoys soft underfoot conditions and she may have still just needed the run when making late headway in the event referred to above. She was well beaten by the former that day but is now 5kgs better off and has her peak outing with Richard Fourie in the saddle. Furthermore, she has dropped further in the ratings and jumps from a good barrier position.
