Winning Form Best Bets
Race 1: GODDESS FAUSTINA(12)
Race 2: CORREDOR(1)
Race 4: SISTER LYNN(8)
Race 6: BIG CAT(6)
Race 3: MUSKETS ‘N ROSES(2)
Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Billy PRESTAGE
MUSKETS ‘N ROSES is a very speedy sort that is best suited to the minimum trip.He has been competitive in his last few starts and tried hard when dead-heating for second place over this c & d, five weeks ago. Muzi Yeni retains the ride which is encouraging and he should go very well in this field.
Race 4: SISTER LYNN(8)
Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER – Trainer: Paul REEVES
SISTER LYNN has improved rapidly since being equipped with blinkers and the daughter of Mogok is threatening her 2nd career win. She was running on nicely at the finish when a close third over this c & d behind Only Emily, three weeks ago in a novice plate. She is much better treated on today’s handicap terms and has bright claims in this line-up.
Race 6: PATERFAMILIAS(7) – TOP BET
Jockey: Grant V/NIEKERK – Trainer: Mike BASS
PATERFAMILIAS has always been held in high regard and seems to be a late maturer. He has often been just off the best of his generation but there was plenty to admire about the manner in which he quickened to easily beat JOHNNY ROCKETS over this c & d, three weeks ago. Admittedly, that was a slow run race and the latter didn’t enjoy the sedate gallop but the top rating was still very impressive. He wasn’t penalized for the victory so is only 1.5kgs worse off with the runner-up and has bright claims of following up.
Race 8: WESTERN WONDER(4)
Jockey: Bernard FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN
The Ramsden yard holds a strong hand in this final event and WESTERN WONDER gets the nod. This son of Way West relished being fitted with blinkers and he was gaining smartly at the finish when beaten one length into second over seven furlongs, two weeks ago. He has placed over the mile and should go very well with that headgear on today. He is again drawn in pole position.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Race 5: FORT BUKLOH(7) (Each Way)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Stan ELLEY
FORT BUKLOH’s last run in the mud is best ignored and such was the state of the track on the day, that the meeting was abandoned a mere 15 minutes after the completion of his event. The Fort Wood gelding is much better than that and he ran on strongly to upset the highly rated three-year olds over this c & d in his penultimate outing. He is again very well-weighted against the younger brigade and should be competitive from a midfield barrier.
