Magic Tips Best Bets

Top Bet

Race 1: BISHOP’S BOUNTY(2)

Jockey: Bernard FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The highly regarded BISHOP’S BOUNTY was all the rage in the betting market when he made his debut against winners over the minimum distance on Met Day, three weeks ago. The well-related chestnut colt was understandably green but he stayed on strongly for a close 3rd, beaten just under one length by his more experienced stable companion. The Snaith inmate would have come on appreciably with that run and he drops heavily in class to maiden company. This extra furlong should be right up his alley and the full-brother to Brutal Force should take a power of beating.

Race 2: STARRETT CITY(7)

Jockey: Bernard FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Neil BRUSS

STARRETT CITY was quietly fancied when he made a fair debut over this c & d recently and he could make good improvement on that effort. The extremely well-related son of Western Winter didn’t shape in the early stages of that event but he made eye-catching late progress over the final two furlongs and was beaten just over four lengths at the line. That experience would have brought the Neil Bruss inmate on and he should make natural improvement. There isn’t a natural pacesetter in this field and his top jockey could ask him to lead.

Race 3: PRIZE PEG(2)

Jockey: Heavelon VAN DER HOVEN – Trainer: Mike ROBINSON

PRIZE PEG is in good form having finished runner-up in 3 of her last 4 starts and she gets the services of an in-form 2.5kgs claiming apprentice today. She came back strongly when pipped over the minimum trip by the speedy Royal Chian (close-up 3rd in a strong handicap subsequently) recently and will certainly prefer this extra furlong. She has strong claims of going one better.

Race 7: BAQUEIRA(1)

Jockey: Bernard FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

This is a very competitive maiden contest and the resultant formline could be worth following. The well-related chestnut filly BAQUEIRA has produced good form but she was expected to have won by now. Still, she has finished close-up in her last two runs over seven furlongs and gives the indication that the mile will be right up her alley. The daughter of Western Winter will be cherry-ripe on her third run back from a break and she should go close once again. The Brett Crawford inmate has drawn well at gate 2.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 8: PALADIN(7)

Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD – Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL

The three-year olds take on some hard-knocking staying handicappers in this final event but the pair of PALADIN and ONE AWAY are above-average and could make their presence felt. They represent the Cape Derby formline and the former performed well when only tiring late to finish just over three lengths adrift in that Grade 1 event over this c & d. He has always suggested that he could turn into a decent stayer and the Jay Peg gelding has strong claims from the best draw.
