TOP BET
Race 2: APOLLO STAR(1)
Jockey: Donovan DILLON – Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN

APOLLO STAR is above-average & he expectedly built on his fair debut when registering an eye-catching second outing in a minor feature over this c & d. He had some traffic issues in that massive field but ran on well for a most creditable 4th, beaten just under five lengths at the line. The Alado colt should continue to progress with racing and he should prove very tough to beat in this maiden class.

Race 3: GOLDEN WINE(5)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

GOLDEN WINE showed big improvement over this c & d second time out. She raced prominently despite her unfavourable draw and challenged strongly before going down under half a length into 3rd at the wire. The runner-up Dance At Dawn boosted the formline with an easy subsequent victory and this daughter of Windrush clearly has more to offer. She is favourably drawn this time around.

Race 6: SHANGRI LA(1)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

The fast improving SHANGRI LA was rested for eight weeks after her super-impressive handicap debut win over ten furlongs at this level in December. The lightly raced hat-trick seeking four-year-old bay filly escaped with just a six-pound penalty and today’s event could prove that she is still ahead of the handicapper. The daughter of Ideal World still has heaps of improvement to come and the slightly shorter trip won’t be an issue, particularly from her good draw.

Race 8: CANDALEEYAH(2)

Jockey: Donovan DILLON – Trainer: Mike ROBINSON

CANDALEEYAH benefitted from her latest rest and she produced an eye-catching comeback run in strong company over this c & d, six weeks ago. The bay mare ran on strongly for a close 3rd at that level and she will strip fitter now. She surprisingly escaped without a penalty and should go very close in this line-up.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 9: IN THE JUNGLE(10)

Jockey: Sihle CELE – Trainer: Piet STEYN

IN THE JUNGLE is racing well at present and his versatility is clearly evident in his formline. He stayed on for a close 3rd in a similar field over the mile recently and should have no issue with this slight drop in distance. The Kildonan gelding is still well handicapped and he should produce another big performance from his midfield draw.
