Race 2: HEADSTRONG HARRY(12)
Race 3: HAMMIE’S WILDCAT(4)
Race 7: IRISH MAY(3)
Race 1: KIRUMBO(13)
Jockey: Stuart RANDOLPH – Trainer: Adam MARCUS
KIRUMBO made a bright debut when he ran on nicely for third behind Third Avenue over this c & d in heavy conditions, four weeks ago. He was only half a length behind the runner-up O’CHEE PAN on that occasion and would have come on nicely with that experience. The obvious issue is whether his trainer has done the necessary work to keep the son of Count Dubois ticking over during all the torrential rains.
Race 3: LATINO LADY(13) – TOP BET
Jockey: Fareed ANTHONY – Trainer: Darryl HODGSON
There should be plenty of speed in this contest and that will suit LATINO LADY very well. The daughter of Latino Magic had two eye-catching sprints prior to her nine week break. She would have strengthened nicely during the rest and should have lots more improvement to come. Her jockey knows her well and she could take some beating here.
Race 4: ZACHARIAS(16)
Jockey: Glen HATT – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD
ZACHARIAS is above average and she had two cracking sprints when finishing close-up over six furlongs on this course. She had little go her way but was still only beaten a short head into second last time out and has plenty of scope for more improvement. The daughter of Lundy’s Liability should relish this extra furlong. She jumps from a handy draw on her debut around the turn and merits healthy respect. That said, she faces two Justin Snaith inmates that also bring serious form into this contest.
Race 7: NONKI POO(4)
NONKI POO had a moderate KZN winter season campaign but showed promising signs on her return to the Cape last time. She was drawn badly in a feature race over this c & d but still ran on eye-catchingly to finish close-up despite being badly out at the weights. She drops heavily in class today and her wide draw may not be the worst thing in the world, if the runners come to the outside of the course in the home straight. She merits healthy respect in this field.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Race 2: DYNASTIC POWER(8) (Each Way)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Stan ELLEY
DYNASTIC POWER caught the eye when he made late progress on his fair debut in heavy conditions over this c & d, four weeks ago. The well-related son of Dynasty would have come on extremely well with that experience under his belt and should have plenty of natural improvement to come. It is encouraging that Fortune retains the ride.
