Race 2: FOREST INDIGO(2)
Race 3: AFRICAN FISH EAGLE(2)
Race 7: AKSARAY(10)
Race 9: INTERNET JET(2)
Race 2: FOREST INDIGO(2) – TOP BET
Jockey: Kevin SHEA – Trainer: Alec LAIRD
This is a cracking contest that features last season’s Grade 1 winning Judpot colt, FOREST INDIGO against some highly regarded up-and-coming sorts. The visitor from the Alec Laird yard is having his final prep for the upcoming Guineas so quite understandably won’t be fully wound-up. His brilliant juvenile form under tough circumstances proves just how good he is and he had a decent local debut over six furlongs, four weeks ago. He will strip much fitter today and more importantly races over a suitable trip. He gets regular pilot Kevin Shea in the irons and is weighted to take a power of beating.
Race 3: AFRICAN FISH EAGLE(2)
Jockey: Grant V/NIEKERK – Trainer: Mike BASS
There should be a decent pace in this contest and that will suit the consistent AFRICAN FISH EAGLE. The Bass inmate is in good form and he was outrun late into a close 3rd when trying the mile in yield- ing conditions, four weeks ago. He should prefer today’s drop in trip and the runner-up franked the form of his last start by winning next time out. This son of Antonius Pius should go really well in this event.
Race 4: ACROSTAR(3)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH
ACROSTAR has shown useful form in her three starts to date. She relished the mile as she ran on nicely for second, albeit 3.50 lengths behind easy winner Going My Own Way over this c & d, four weeks ago. The daughter of Danehill Dancer came from a long way back on that occasion and should be much handier from today’s good draw. She should continue to progress and will be tough to beat.
Race 5: ROMAN MANNER(1)
Jockey: Karl NEISIUS – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER
ROMAN MANNER is a smart son of Holy Roman Emperor that has proven his versatility thus far. He was a fluent winner of his penultimate outing over this trip under a big mass and then should have won a little easier than the victory margin suggested over seven furlongs last time out. It does come as a surprise that his conditioner drops him in trip again but he has plenty of class about him and should prove equal to the task. He has a smart turn of foot and can complete the hat-trick.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Race 6: EMPEROR’S FOREST(3) (Each Way)
Jockey: Glen HATT – Trainer: Piet STEYN
EMPEROR’S FOREST has shown moderate form since trying the turn and his conditioner rightly reverts to basics with the son of Count Dubois. Of course, he quickened smartly to win his debut in heavy going over this c & d in early September. He drops heavily in class after contesting a feature over seven furlongs last time and should bounce back to form here. He gets the services of man-of-the-moment Glen Hatt for the first time.
