Racing this Saturday sees an entertaining eleven race programme at Kranji Racecourse with a host of top quality racing on offer, the top bet and value bet, should be followed closely.
VALUE BET – ST ALWYN
TOP BET – ELLIOT NESS
PA: Starts Race 5
RACE 1 – Time: 06:30 Class 5 Handicap -2000m
HWASONG looks a likely type in a race of this nature and comes from a stable who do well with stayers and he must be respected here. SUPER ATAS an interesting runner now over this trip and is still lightly raced. The son of Charm Spirit still has scope. SPORTSCASTER from the Mark Walker stable is up five points for last week and now switches to the turf, he can feature here.
RACE 2 – Time: 07:00 Maiden- 1100m
ELLIOT NESS only found the smart Lim’s Kosciuszko too good last time out. He has since bolted up in a trial and would seem like the horse to beat on form. GOLDEN WAY two time maiden who was sixth in the Group 3 Singapore Golden Horseshoe at only his second start. A recent trial win was impressive and should be bang in there for a new stable. SAHABAT has shown better form on this surface and won a trial in good time over Lim’s Kosciuszko recently to suggest a big show in expected.
RACE 3 – Time: 07:30 Class 4 Handicap- 1400m
LIM’S BESTBREAKER has always run some genuinely nice races in defeat and this trip could suit him well and is worth siding with here. SPECIAL OPS has won recent trial and has plenty of form to call in. He has a good break and can go well fresh. SPEEDY MISSILE from the Mark Walker yard has some smart form and this trip is a plus. He’s a must for all bets.
RACE 4 – Time: 08:00 Class 5 Handicap -1200m
ST ALWYN still yet to win from 16 career starts but has run second three times over this course and distance and perhaps now is the time he gets the head in front. HAPPY FRIDAY the sixth placed finish behind Optimum Star was much better than it looks on paper and with a clearer run here, he can go close. SHOWBOUND from the Mark Walker yard had the misfortune to bump into a well prepped recent trial winner last time out, he has nice weight here and is one for the exotics.
RACE 5 – Time: 08:30 Class 3 Handicap – 1600m
SPIRIT OF BIG BANG rolled forward and settled wide without cover in his last win and just lasted. The son of Intikhab is unproven over the polytrack, but his still in good form and is worth following again. ON LINE more of a turf horse but is definitely not hopeless on the Polytrack. He made up ground to finish second to stable companion Big Hearted last time out. AXEL saw daylight when race was all over last time. On the quick back-up he, can test the Michael Clements duo above.
RACE 6 – Time: 09:00 Class 5 Handicap -2000m
BIG REGARDS from the Mark Walker yard now 13 points lower than his last win and has plenty of decent staying form at this level and looks the one to be with here. ACCUMULATION a winner earlier this month off a lowly mark over 1600m.The 7-year old bay gelding now up in trip and is in form, so one to include here. JUPITER DRAGON from the Hideyuki Takaoka yard can finish off strongly and is an interesting contender at this distance.
RACE 7 – Time: 09:30 Class 1 Handicap -1600m
MR CLINT flew home for fourth over is distance last time out. He seems to be holding his form and cannot be ignored even if the trip is still short of his best. SACRED CROIX impressive win last time over this course and distance. He picks up six kilos penalty. Stiffer task but he won’t be out of it under champion jockey Vlad Duric. MINISTER the mile is more up his alley. No show over 1200m but has taken plenty of improvement from that run. Bolder run expected this time.
RACE 8 – Time: 10:00 Class 5 Handicap -1200m
KAKADU has been running respectable races in maiden company and this Class 5 looks very winnable for a stable amongst the winners of late. EIGHT BALL makes his debut at this level and has finished around some useful types. He has every chance here. LIFE IS GAMBLE up five points for an enterprising front running win last time out under Joseph See. This is not a strong Class 5 and he certainly has claims here.
RACE 9 – Time: 10:30 Class 4 Handicap -1400m
BE YOU fought with great determination to win over the same course and distance at his last outing. Takes on open company but should still come through on current form. RELENTLESS from the Fitzsimmons yard was running on too late last time. He will strip fitter for this. SAVVY COMMAND from a wide gate, had to do some work to sit outside the leader last time out. He overraced midrace as well but still stayed on for fourth. His drawn in pole and can make amends.
Race 10 – Time: 11:00 Group 1 –1200m
FAME STAR looked a winner last start but was nabbed at the last stride. Back to his best form and will take some catching from barrier four if he has things his way. GRAND KOONTA not seen since his Kranji Stakes A win in January. Kept fresh, he has been specially prepared for this race. ROCKET STAR returning after a bleeding attack at a barrier trial on December 29. Prior form was top-notch. Third to Nepean in the Group 2 EW Barker Trophy (1400m). Goes well fresh. Dark horse of the race.
Race 11 – Time: 11:30 Class 4 Handicap-1600m
HARD TOO THINK Derby prospect who is blooming at the right time. Lost some races through no fault of his a few times. Has drawn wide, but he can still take this if he tucks in somewhere with cover. KING’S COMMAND should have won his last start. He was hampered in the home straight and by the time he recovered, it was too late. The blinkers come on and he should be right there. IMPLEMENT from the Michael Clements yard you can ignore his last run when he was slow to begin. It won’t surprise if he finishes in the money.
