DONCASTER
Race 2 No6 NEPTUNE SEAS
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: James Doyle
NEPTUNE SEAS was too green to do himself justice on debut at this course yet still managed to get within a length and a half of the winner Golden Bugle. The Sea The Stars gelding is likely to come on a fair way for that and can outpoint the penalised Moshaawer.
Race 6 No1 LUBNA (Nap)
Trainer: Saeed Bin Suroor – Jockey: Dane O’Neill
Having missed out when Hamilton was cancelled earlier in the week, LUBNA can take advantage of this quick alternative. A 6lb penalty for her Brighton success shouldn’t prevent her scoring on handicap debut, with cheek pieces added for the first time.
SANDOWN PARK
Race 1 No3 KABOO
Trainer: Karl Burke – Jockey: Rossa Ryan
Not since Chief Singer’s incredible Coventry Stakes success on debut back in 1982 has a first-time juvenile received as much support as KABOO did in the WindsorCastleStakes a fortnight ago. The More Than Ready colt made a good fist of it to finish just out of the money in that 27-runner Royal Ascot field and is going to be more streetwise today.
Race 3 No7 GAIUS (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Ryan Moore
From a very good draw, GAIUS can open his account for a stable doing well with its juveniles. The son of Havana Gold has earned on both starts at Windsor and Newbury, making him the most experienced participant in this contest, while hopefully the wisest.
Race 4 No4 JOHN LEEPER
Trainer: Ed Dunlop – Jockey: Adam Kirby
Named after the late John Dunlop, JOHN LEEPER couldn’t cope with a big class jump into the Cazoo Derby, although his effort might have been better than it looked. He got a bit revved up in the preliminaries and was given an exaggerated waiting ride, and after looming early in the home straight, had nothing left at the finish behind Adayar. He is going to be happier cutting back to a mile and a quarter on this Listed contest and will benefit if there’s a strong pace.
NEWTON ABBOT
Race 7 No4 DANBORU (Nap)
Trainer: Tim Vaughan – Jockey: Alan John’s
The Vaughan stable had a welcome winner on Wednesday and DANBORU can add to those laurels after an eye-taking comeback run when second to Polydora at Chepstow. His appearances have been few and far between over the last 18 months, but that latest effort shows he’s retained much of his ability.
BEVERLEY
Race 3 No3 INSTINCTION
Trainer: Bryan Smart – Jockey: Graham Lee
INSTINCTION has the points on the board after a debut win, a cracking run in a York Listed race and a solid second at Catterick. Her form stands up to the closest inspection, and she can regain the winning thread on the way to better things.
Race 6 No6 UNDER FOX (Nap)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Graham Lee
UNDER FOX looked to win with more in hand than the margin of victory indicated at Newcastle, where the addition of blinkers appeared to give him a definite boost. Back on the grass here, he should prove hard to beat under a penalty.
HAYDOCK PARK
Race 4 No3 DIGITAL (Nap)
Trainer: Kevin Ryan – Jockey: Tom Eaves
Having made a most satisfactory return to action when beaten a whisker at Ayr, DIGITAL can consolidate for a trainer that is amongst the winners and does especially well with his sprinters. The Kodi Bear gelding is well drawn for this three-year-old-only contest, and cherry ripe to deliver with that encouraging run under his belt.
Race 6 No6 EXCEEDINGLY REGAL
Trainer: William Knight – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
While the lure of handicaps must be on the minds of his connections, EXCEEDINGLY REGAL can endorse the promise of his first run back by taking out these novice stakes. He’s a potential improver and can show too many guns for penalised Fabricated.
