ASCOT
Race 2 No2 SOARING GLORY
Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill – Jockey: Tom Scudamore
Betfair Hurdle winner SOARING GLORY couldn’t quite cut the mustard when fourth to Appreciate It in the Supreme Novices’ at the Cheltenham Festival, but has returned a stronger entity and can make a mark on this switch back to handicaps.
Race 3 No1 ONE FOR ROSIE
Trainer: Kim Bailey – Jockey: David Bass
ONE FOR ROSIE has earned top weight with his unblemished record in novice chases after joining this stable at the start of the year. The grey impressed on both starts at Leicester and Carlisle, and can remain unbeaten.
Race 5 No8 PEKING ROSE (Nap)
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien – Jockey: Paddy Brennan
PEKING ROSE chased the shadow of the very smart Knappers Hill on two of his three bumper starts last season, and has taken well to hurdles at home. His trainer can do little wrong, and he rates a worthy favourite to take the spoils.
WETHERBY
Race 3 No8 INDEFATIGABLE
Trainer: Paul Webber – Jockey: Daryl Jacob
INDEFATIGABLE chased home the classy Lady Buttons here two years ago and returns to the track fresh from a snug win on the Flat at Pontefract. The eight-year-old landed the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Hurdle at last year’s Cheltenham Festival and can shake up her male rivals in a fascinating contest.
Race 4 Bet365 CHARLIE HALL CHASE (Grade 2)
No2 CLONDAW CASTLE (Nap)
Trainer: Tom George – Jockey: Jonathan Burke
Cyrname dominated this race in 2020 before losing his lustre when pulled-up in the King George and then the Ascot Chase. He needs to get his mojo back, and is always dangerous after a break, but CLONDAW CASTLE could make life difficult for him. Tom George has Kempton at Christmas in line for the improving nine-year-old, who after a sterling effort in defeat at Aintree in April can now show he stays three miles.
NEWMARKET
Race 3 No9 GREATNESS AWAITS
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa
GREATNESS AWAITS did nothing wrong when denied by Reelemin at Pontefract and has to be of interest with De Sousa back in the irons. The Clodovil colt was way too green in his early starts this season, but is finding his niche in nurseries.
Race 5 No5 FLASH BETTY (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa
FLASH BETTY aid carded to start as one of the roughies in this Listed race for fillies, but shouldn’t be underestimated She has been a captain of industry to connections, and only just missed out on some black type in an identical race at Newbury. She has taken those exertions extremely well.
Race 6 No3 MAJESTIC DAWN (Nap)
Trainer: Paul Cole – Jockey: Paul Hanagan
MAJESTIC DAWN loves this course as he demonstrated when running away with last season’s Cambridgeshire. He routed his rivals in a Class2 at Salisbury last time, and can prove more than a match for the progressive three-year-old Bay Bridge.
