FFOS LAS
Race 1 No5 GETTHEPOT (Nap)
Trainer: Graeme McPherson – Jockey: Kielan Woods
The only bet on a difficult card stands out in the shape of GETTHEPOT. The former Irish pointer has been a gradual improver for new connections, and his Ayr win and Southwell second are proof positive he’s running at close to the ceiling of his powers.
HAMILTON PARK
Race 1 No2 SMULLEN (Nap)
Trainer: Kevin Ryan – Jockey: Kevin Stott
Although finishing last but one in a four-cornered affair on debut at Pontefract, SMULLEN had been backed as if defeat was out of the question. He ran like he didn’t know what to do, which can happen to juveniles from this stable first time out. Importantly they tend to leave it well behind on the second start.
Race 4 No9 DANZAN
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Ella McCain
This can fall to the consistent DANZAN whose trainer is enjoying a purple patch with his sprint handicappers. The Lawman gelding hasn’t won since the winter of 2018 but if reproducing either of his last two efforts at Doncaster or York ought to be good enough.
UTTOXETER
Race 3 No4 DYNAMITE KENTUCKY
Trainer: Dr Richard Newland – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
Chasamax is paper favourite dropping back in trip for this maiden hurdle but is worth taking on, with DYNAMITE KENTUCKY the one to be on. The selection has earned in all three starts since joining his trainer, and shouldn’t be inconvenienced by drying underfoot conditions.
Race 7 No1 LARCH HILL (Nap)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
This should end up in a battle between top and bottom weights, with LARCH HILL preferred to Cawthorne. In three outings through the spring Larch Hill has run well, posting a win at Warwick sandwiched between near-misses at Southwell and Stratford. He has the make and shape to successfully carry 12 stone.
CHELMSFORD CITY
Race 4 No7 MY SWALLOW
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Ryan Moore
MY SWALLOW is on a recovery mission after blotting his copybook on handicap debut at Ascot last month. The Shalaa colt had worked with great gusto going into that race but may not have enjoyed the cut in the ground. He could easily bounce back now returned to Polytrack.
Race 5 No3 SCUDAMORE
Trainer: Ivan Furtado – Jockey: Tom Marquand
The one with form in the book and scope for progression on only a sixth career start is SCUDAMORE. The Southwell scorer looks to have dual scorer Aleatoric as his only serious threat and can convert.
Race 7 No7 MAYTAL (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Ryan Moore
The Stoute/Moore combo can take out the nightcap with MAYTAL, who is almost certainly better than her comeback effort at Newcastle indicates. She was backed as if defeat was out of the question that day, only to underperform. She’s up against a very solid rival in Sea Empress, but with that one carrying a penalty has the cards in her favour.
THIRSK
Race 1 No5 MAKALU (Nap)
Trainer: Kevin Ryan – Jockey: John Shinnick
MAKALU hails from a yard going great guns with its juveniles but needs to show his running at Southwell last time to be all wrong. The gelding was all at sea on that deep Fibresand surface but should be in his comfort zone back on turf, and able to confirm the promise of his first outing in the Brocklesby.
Race 4 No3 BELIEF
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: Danny Tudhope
By Le Havre out of a Galileo mare, BELIEF can take full advantage of the 7lb she receives from penalised rival Timeless Soul. The selection made an eye taking first run back when third in a big field of maidens at Nottingham that should have put the cutting edge on her for tonight.
Race 6 No6 WHITWELL
Trainer: Mick Easterby – Jockey: Joanna Mason
Ultra consistent WHITWELL looks the way to go with top weight Galidermes added into all exotics. The selection is named after the trainer’s local point-to-point, and shouldn’t need to jump through any hoops to get involved here.
