LINGFIELD PARK
Race 2 No1 GLENTANEOUS
Trainer: Brian Meehan – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
As the only past winner in the field GLENTANEOUS has to give his rivals weight, but that might not stop the Gleneagles colt following up his snug Lingfield triumph. His trainer has his Manton team in good order, with three winners in as many days over the weekend.
Race 3 No7 REBEL TERRITORIES (Nap)
Trainer: Amanda Perrett – Jockey: William Buick
Territories has made an impact in his first couple of seasons in the stallion barn and his son REBEL TERRITORIES holds strong mails to take out this novice. He troubled the judge in what turned out to be a strong race over course and distance last time and looks all set to build on that.
AYR
Race 2 No6 DANCING DOUG (Each Way)
Trainer: Alistair Whillans – Jockey: Callum Bewley
We are straight into the new jumps season and DANCING DOUG holds good win and place claims in this competitive handicap hurdle. He’s inched closer to a first success for this trainer with every run and is now in a position to deliver.
Race 3 No2 BOOTLEGGER (Nap)
Trainer: Tristan Davidson – Jockey: Harry Reed
Consistency is the watchword of BOOTLEGGER, who is possibly the most likely of these to produce near to or his best form. He’s posted a win and two seconds in as many starts for this trainer, and will be suited by ground, track and trip.
Race 4 No4 SIDI ISMAEL
Trainer: Keith Dalgleish – Jockey: Craig Nichol
The strong travelling SIDI ISMAEL gained a confidence-boosting triumph at Kelso from which he can now consolidate. Having flattered only to deceive on a couple of his previous starts, he’s now fully in the zone, with his tail up.
FAKENHAM
Race 2 No3 EURKASH (Nap)
Trainer: Paul Webber – Jockey: Page Fuller
Fuller got on well with EURKASH on the only time she’s ridden him at Plumpton. The combination ran into one in Fleck Ivy that day, but on a track that isn’t dissimilar can now go be better. It would be just reward for the horse who runs in his trainer’s colours, who after back-to-back near misses now tries to make it third time lucky.
Race 5 No3 BOUGHTBEFORELUNCH
Trainer: Paul Webber – Jockey: Jack Savage
The blinkered BOUGHTBEFORELUNCH never fails to give it his all and can utilise his superior jumping to maximum effect round these tight turns. He’s not been given any slack by the handicapper, but the way he keeps producing indicates the ball has to go into the net sooner rather than later.
SOUTHWELL
Race 2 No3 STARJAC (Nap)
Trainer: Paul Webber – Jockey: Gavin Sheehan
STARJAC looks in a prime spot to take out this handicap chase following a couple of readying runs since coming off the injury list. He badly needed the first of those at Stratford, but when going back there last month made Bob The Getaway fight for the spoils. He remains with a win, but after just eight career starts can make up for lost time.
Race 6 No3 GROSVENOR COURT
Trainer: Alan King – Jockey: Tom Cannon
The value in this novices’ hurdle could be GROSVENOR COURT, who has now had time to develop and might well improve for the switch to jumping. He faces a red hot rival in No Ordinary Joe, but can be the one to capitalise if his opponent fails to show up.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 5 No9 PHOENIX DAWN
Trainer: Dr Richard Newland – Jockey: Ben Curtis
Punters at Dunstall Park may need to wait for the best bets, with this Class 6 handicap due to start just as the lights come on. PHOENIX DAWN brings two good hurdle runs to the table for his new training, who has booked the North’s most progressive rider to do the steering.
Race 6 No4 DEGREE (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Richard Kingscote
Without question, DEGREE is the most impeccably bred horse on view and needs to be taken very seriously. The daughter of Dubawi is out of Group 1 winner Echelon, and can prove a fine advertisement for her owner-breeders by stepping up on her eye taking debut at Lingfield to land the soils.
