Neil Morrice: International Racing – Tuesday 2 March 2021

Neil Morrice Best Bets

Neil Morrice brings you all of his best bets and tips for Tuesday’s racing coming your way from Leicester, Catterick Bridge, and Newcastle.

LEICESTER

Race 3 No1 BRIANSTROM (Nap)

Trainer: Venetia Williams – Jockey: Charlie Deutsch

In a poor race it might be worth giving BRIANSTORM a chance to bounce back from what at the time looked a disappointing effort at Doncaster where after proving strong in the market he failed to menace. On reflection that came very soon after his promising comeback run at Exeter, and today he gets a good opportunity to show that the wind operation he underwent before the start of the current season has worked.

Race 5 No3 CAPTAIN McGINLEY (Each Way)
Trainer: B Gibbs – Jockey: Conor Brace

Anything can happen in this wide open hunter-chase, and with Fumet D’Oudairies sure to dominate betting exchanges with I’m Wise Now,CAPTAIN McGINLEYis the horse with the value tag around his neck. His stable have a couple of useful performers in this sphere and he ran respectfully behind Sametegal at Wincanton on return from almost two years off. He just needs a small amount of progression from that to enter calculations.

CATTERICK BRIDGE

Race 3 No1 CHUVELO (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jr – Jockey: Brian Hughes

CHUVELO has cost his supporters with a couple of heavy defeats since being switched to hurdles but is too good a horse to be left alone in this weak affair. The dual bumper scorer from last season needs to be given the chance to bounce back.

Race 4 No4 ASK PADDY
Trainer: Sam England – Jockey: Jonathan England

ASK PADDY wasn’t beaten far in a similar contest here last month when jumping well and eventually going down by just over five lengths to Didero Vallis. He was a three time winner over fences at the course at this time last season, and as he seems to be nudging towards peak form can use his track craft to positive effect and return to winning ways.

NEWCASTLE

Race 1 No2 ISLAND BRAVE (Nap)

Trainer: Heather Main – Jockey: Martin Dwyer

ISLAND BRAVE won at Ascot and landed a decent pot here when last seen before Christmas for a small stable that does well with this type of individual. An entire horse by sprinter Zebedee, he looks a pedigree freak as everything about him suggests that staying is his game.

Race 5 No6 SILVER DUST
Trainer: Richard Fahey – Jockey: J Garritty

The feature on this card could well go to a horse with recent form to its name, which is why I prefer SILVER DUST to Ursa Minor. The latter is the best horse in the race and gets first time blinkers but Silver Dust looked like a horse getting ready to win when chasing home Thrill Seeker at Kempton, and can make further improvement.
