SHA TIN BEST BETS SUNDAY
Race 1 No11 TREASURE CHEST
Trainer: Ricky Yiu – Jockey: Alfie Chan
For pure value TREASURE CHEST can show he’s a jewel of a bet
in an admittedly tricky opener. The five-year-old is awaiting a first victory
here after 11 attempts, but this could be his day. He looked like a horse
getting ready to win when fourth to Red Brick Fighter at the start of the month
with apprentice Chan aboard for the first time. That jockey should know more of
what to expect. KELMIMI WINS finished second in that race and has to be
respected, as it was his best effort for soon to depart trainer John Moore. Top
weight SHANGHAI DRAGON is consistent and a must in for exotics.

Prediction: 11-7-1
Race 2 No5 MIGHTY VALOR
Trainer: Ricky Yiu – Jockey: Zac Purton
Considering he had a rotten draw MIGHTY VALOR didn’t fare
too badly when third to Angel Of My Eyes at the end of last month. He’d
previously returned from a break to bolt up off a lower mark and is clearly
right in the zone. PRECIOUS SWEETIE ran out of real estate when well down the
field after being well supported last time. He’s worth another market check,
while MONKEY JEWELLERY doesn’t know how to run a bad race and is another must
include.

Prediction: 5-9-2
Race 3 No4 MIGHTY POWER
Trainer: Benno Yung – Jockey: Jerry Chau
MIGHTY POWER ran better than his finishing position
indicates last time and gets a speculative vote in an open heat. He has a good
draw from which to attack, and can make this an overdue first win in Hong Kong.
LEADING FORTUNE knows where the winning post is, as mirrored by his short head
triumphs in April and earlier this month. He was beaten only a neck two starts
back and with this ring of consistency has to be considered. CIRCUIT HASSLER
needs to overcome a tricky draw if he’s to better a couple of near misses.
Prediction: 4-2-3

Race 4 No8 GENERAL’S DELIGHT (Nap)
Trainer: Doug Whyte – Jockey: Karis Teetan
The featured Sha Tin Mile can fall to GENERAL’S DELIGHT, a
horse with scope for serious improvement. He landed quite a gamble when opening
his account two starts back and then ran a corker to finish fourth to Ka Ying
Star, beaten just half a length in a blanket finish to the Lion Rock Trophy.
Having positively answered a first big ask he can consolidate in this slightly
easier contest. Just inches in front of him that day was FAST MOST FURIOUS who
has to be taken seriously, and if there’s to be an upset it could emanate from
NORTHERN SUPERSTAR, who just two runs back was contesting at Group 1 level but
hasn’t really cut the mustard since his arrival from South Africa.

Prediction: 8-2-5
Race 5 No6 GOOD DAYS
Trainer: Danny Shum – Jockey: Zac Purton
Zac Purton is the man to conjure a bit more from the
frustrating GOOD DAYS. It’s over a year since the gelding’s latest win here,
but his last five outings have resulted in form figures of 22424. The last
twice he’s chased the shadow of Bullish Glory who is mercifully absent, leaving
CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE as his main foe. The latter came out of the wilderness to
post a near miss last time. At longer odds CHEERFUL STAR is one to go into all
exotics and can earn.
Prediction: 6-13-9

Hollywoodbets Back on Track Punters' Challenge

Race 6 No3 SKY FIELD
Trainer: Caspar Fownes – Jockey: Joao Moreira
SKY FIELD can show he’s an emerging force on the Hong Kong
circuit. From a good gate his telling turn of foot should stand him in good
stead if he enjoys the breaks in running. He looked unlucky not to catch Yee
Chong Pegasus when returning from a six month break the other day. The obvious
danger is GOLDEN LINK, who has knocked on the door on his last two of only
three career outings. He’s well drawn and has Zac Purton in the irons. WAR LORD
has enjoyed a short stay in the Conghua training centre and should represent a
bit of value.

Prediction: 3-2-4

Race 7 No8 SUMSTREETSUMWHERE
Trainer: David Hall – Jockey: Blake Shinn
There’s a lot to like about SUMSTREETSUMWHERE on his second
start for David Hall. He finished strongly for a place with the benefit of
first time blinkers here two weeks ago, and if maintaining that level of form
has to go close. SUPER RED DRAGON was mugged last time on only his fourth
outing of the year for Mi So who now engages Joao Moreira for the grey. With a
recent win under his belt, SO WE JOY can also figure under top weight.

Prediction: 8-12-1

Race 8 No13 EMERALD SPUR
Trainer: Ricky Yiu – Jockey: Dylan Mo
EMERALD SPUR has been freshened by a visit to Conghua, and
although a tricky customer to catch right, this could be his day. It’s only a
fifth run of the year for the gelding who peaked with back-to-back triumphs
last autumn. From gate 2 THE ROCK has to be of interest as he’s an unexposed
individual that’s shown ability on both career starts for the Fownes stable.
Prolific scorer FANTASTIC SHOW has been a revelation since getting blinkers,
winning four on the bounce and placing on his other two starts under Moreira.
Prediction: 13-2-4

Race 9 No2 MONGOLIAN KING
Trainer: Me Tsui – Jockey: Zac Purton
Purton has his customary good book and one of his picks has
to be MONGOLIAN KING who doesn’t know how to run a bad race. He’s finished
second five times and won once in his last nine outings and remains at his
optimum distance with BEAUTY APPLAUSE looking a threat after a sharpening run
off a break. AMAZING CHOCOLATE has bloomed under the tutelage of Tony Millard,
but if this is to be a fourth win from just six starts for that trainer he
needs to cope with the step into a Class 2.
Prediction: 2-6-10

Race 10 No12 HEZA BEAUTY
Trainer: John Size – Jockey: Joao Moreira
Having gained a deserved win over course and distance two
weeks ago, HEZA BEAUTY can consolidate for the Size/Moreira combo. A pea out of
the same pod is FLYING SWORD who remains in the Class 3 band in an attempt to
boost Tony Cruz’s attempt to land the trainer’s’ title. But he acks the
consistency of Heza Beauty, and a sterner threat could stem from top weight
LOBO’S LEGEND.
Prediction: 12-1-4

Race 11 No7 PRESIDENT’S CHOICE
Trainer: C W Chang – Jockey: Antoine Hamelin
PRESIDENT’S CHOICE has done well for his connections during
a short time in Hong Kong, posting two successes from only six outings since
January. He’s coped with a step up the class ladder, finishing second in a
$116k contest and fifth in another behind the impressive California Gungho. With
his scope for further improvement he can stave off a dangerous-looking
challenge from WINNING BREW, who produced an eye taking display to open his
account here, but now steps up.
Prediction: 7-9-3
