Neil Morrice: International Racing – Thursday 1 October 2020

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from Thursday’s racing taking place at
Salisbury, Chelmsford City, Warwick, and Ffos Las.

SALISBURY

Race 1: No7 – MICKYDEE
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Rossa Ryan
MICKYDEE has already shown a liking for this course, posting a frame finish on debut last month. Like a number of the Hannon juveniles, he will come on a fairway for his first outing and can prove too strong for Set Point and Mohaafeth.
Race 3: No5 – ENSYAABY
Trainer: Marcus Tregoning – Jockey: Jim Crowley
From the stable that houses top-class juvenile Minzaal, and in the same silks, ENSYAABY can land a punch in an interesting first division of the seven-furlong maiden. The Dark Angel colt showed ability when just out of the money on debut at Newbury and has become more fine-tuned with the benefit of that educational outing under his belt.

Race 5: No3 – DARK SHIFT (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Hills – Jockey: Kieren Shoemark
DARK SHIFT represents an Ascot race that is working out well and can remain unbeaten by taking out this four-runner conditions stakes. Another son of Dark Angel, he looked the real deal in streaking away from the well regarded Twilight Calls to score by an impressive four lengths. The form is working out, and he looks a colt to follow.

CHELMSFORD CITY

Race 1: No9 – LOOKTOTHERAINBOW (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick
There were some burned when LOOKTOTHERAINBOW made her debut at Newmarket, the daughter of Dubawi finishing fourth to Wakening without ever looking like justifying the market support. She needs to step up in order to land this fillies’ novice stakes, but the manner of her subsequent work suggests she’s learned plenty.
Race 3: No5 – SYMBOLIC POWER
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick
Kingman colt SYMBOLIC POWER couldn’t hold a candle to Recovery Run on debut at Sandown but will be more worldly-wise for this first run in almost two months. The way he’s trained on a similar surface at home suggests he’ll give his market rivals plenty to think about.

WARWICK

Race 6: No8 – GIVEPEACEACHANCE (Each Way)
Trainer: Denis Coakley – Jockey: Jonathan Burke
GIVEPEACEACHANCE shaped sufficiently well on her reappearance in novice company at Fontwell to make her of interest in this mares’ handicap hurdle. She jumped well with the leaders until lack of condition took its toll in the final quarter mile, and might have been given a chance by the assessor for this task equipped with a first-time hood to help her to settle.
Race 7: No2 – CAPTAIN MORGS (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Henderson – Jockey: Nico de Boinville
The vibes from Seven Barrows speak well for CAPTAIN MORGS on debut in this bumper. He’s shown ability in his work, and with the stable amongst the winners can outpoint a field made up largely of fellow unraced horses.

FFOS LAS

Race 1: No10 – AKKAPENKO (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Vaughan – Jockey: Charlie Price
Conditional jockey Price has a good record on AKKAPENKO, scoring on the former French-based gelding at Sedgefield and finishing second on him on two other occasions from a total of four rides. They hit the crossbar at Market Rasen in late July and can again be competitive as long as the ground doesn’t get softer.
Race 5: No5 – MERE ANARCHY (Each Way)
Trainer: Robert Stephens – Jockey: Cieren Gethings
The visored MERE ANARCHY was returned 100-1 when landing a middle distance handicap at Salisbury on his latest appearance, an achievement that should have blown away any cobwebs on what was his first race since the end of January. His previous form in handicap hurdles is devoid of success, but it’s possible his confidence is now at a new level and he should run well.
