WINDSOR

Race 2 No1 JOHNNYWHO
Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill – Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr

JOHNNYWHO takes a class drop after chasing the shadow of The Jukebox Man and latterly Mark Of Gold in Grade2 novice chases at Newbury and Ascot. He will greatly appreciate the step up to three miles for this first run in a handicap, while the nature of the new Windsor jumps course should prove to be right up his street.

Race 3 FITZDARES LIGHTNING NOVICES’ CHASE (Grade 2)

No3 PERSONAL AMBITION
Trainer: Ben Pauling – Jockey: Ben Jones

In a small but select field PERSONAL AMBITION can prove to be a potent outsider of four. Especially encouraging for his chance is how much he relished a move up the distance ladder to beat all but Mark of Gold at Ascot, and his prospects will be seriously enhanced should JOHNNYWHO run well in the previous race.

The attacking policy shown by PARTY VIBES in her two races over fences have paid dividends, and even though she had to work to land prohibitive odds at Exeter I think this course is going to be far more her cup of tea. This bold jumper can take the spoils in the colours of a syndicate headed by former champion jockey Richard Johnson.

Race 5 No2 NEMEAN LION (Nap)
Trainer: Kerry Lee – Jockey: Richard Patrick

This conditions race brings with it the best bet on the card in NEMEAN LION. The star of Lee’s stable was entitled to outclass his foes at Hereford last time but he’s better than a handicapper and can make further progression over this two and a half mile trip.

A one time inmate of the Godolphin operation, he was placed in Group company in France and is going to enjoy this track and the prevailing underfoot conditions.

Race 6 No2 HANSARD (Each Way)
Trainer: Gary Moore – Jockey: Niall Houlihan

While this is wickedly competitive I can see HANSARD grabbing a big slice of the cake on his second run back. Nothing can match him on the home gallops, and though rusty for his race at Kempton he was still cantering approaching the final flight.

That earning run has done him the power of good, to make him a bet worth waiting for, although others that need inclusion in all permutations are NAVAJO INDY, SECRET SQUIRREL and KABRAL DU MATHAN.

Prediction: 1st HANSARD, 2nd Secret Squirrel, 3rd Navajo Indy, 4th Kabral Du Mathan

MARKET RASEN

Race 1 No1 DOUBLE OBAN (Nap)
Trainer: Olly Murphy – Jockey: Lewis Stones

DOUBLE OBAN is a thick set individual who was always going to find his forte over jumps. He brings the best form to the table for what should prove a straightforward assessment and can successfully give weight to his six rivals.

Race 2 No1 FINGLE BRIDGE
Trainer: Olly Murphy – Jockey: Sean Bowen

From the same stable, FINGLE BRIDGE can beat Wellington Arch in a race the pair can dominate. He returned from a two year absence to score at Uttoxeter from which he can make any amount of progression.

Race 5 No1 MIDNIGHTREFLECTION (Each Way)
Trainer: Ben Case – Jockey:Mr Charlie Case

The only mare against males, MIDNIGHTREFLECTION provides a value option in this three miles handicap hurdle. She’s not quite rediscovered her best form from last season, but when fourth in a warm heat at Warwick on New Year’s Eve indicated a win is imminent.

NEWCASTLE

Race 1 No1 POPMASTER (Each Way)
Trainer: Ed Walker – Jockey: Billy Loughnane

POPMASTER managed to get himself badly handicapped and has had to spend a long spell in racing’s wilderness. However, there were clear signs in his three earning AW runs at the back end that he’s on the cusp of a breakthrough. If he achieves it SYMBOL OF LIGHT is one that can follow him into the frame, and is worth saving on.

Race 2 No3 STAINCLIFF (Each Way)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: David Probert

STAINCLIFF has an abundance of natural ability but has had to cope with training issues. It makes her a risky proposition, but the money that’s gone west on her on more than one occasion might be recouped this afternoon.

Race 5 No8 METALLO (Each Way)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Daniel Muscutt

Channon has done well with horses in this ownership and METALLO is poised for a big earning run. He ran into some useful types in his juvenile season but after a lay off came back to post an eye taking run at Kempton from which he can progress to earn in this admittedly warm contest.

SOUTHWELL

Race 1 No6 PLAGE DE HAVRE
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Jason Watson

The lightly-raced PLAGE DE HAVRE missed out on a good opportunity when Lingfield was frozen off and now tries his luck in a first handicap. He’s the most interesting horse in this race and is one to follow, whatever his fate this evening.

Race 7 No1 CHARLATAN (Nap)
Trainer: David Simcock – Jockey: Luke Morris

CHARLATAN did us a good turn when landing the NAP in convincing fashion here on Tuesday. The chestnut completed a hat-trick at this time in 2024 and there’s every chance he could hunt down another, as he was most impressive and looked to have plenty left in the tank.
