PLUMPTON
Race 3 No10 VOIX DE BOCELLI (Each Way)
Trainer: Henrietta Knight – Jockey: Brendan Powell
VOIX DE BOCELLI isn’t an obvious pick for this novices’ hurdle, but with his trainer’s horses creeping into a bit of form could outrun his high odds. There’s not been a smidgeon of support for him since his arrival from a top French jumps yard, but a return to this discipline can assist him.
Race 4 No11 MACARI
Trainer: Sheena West – Jockey: Marc Goldstein
MACARI takes the eye from the bottom of the weights in a race where BERTIE B can also run well. The Sixties Icon gelding won on the Flat at Newbury before narrowly failing to justify market support at this course and should again prove a popular order for his local stable.
Race 5 No3 BORN AT MIDNIGHT (Nap)
Trainer: Bill Turner – Jockey: Ben Ffrench-Davis
One I’m looking forward to is BORN AT MIDNIGHT, for whom a first run back can prove an advantage. He is a big old fashioned chasing type but doesn’t take much getting ready, while his record at this track last season reads 3112. Another plus is the 5lb taken off his back by a capable amateur rider.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 1 No8 YOSHIMI (Nap)
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: Andrea Pinna
YOSHIMI has been in great heart with a Chelmsford success and podium finish at Southwell since returning to the all-weather. Interestingly this is only his second run at Dunstall Park in 46 career outings, but he’s been handed a plum draw and has a new pilot taking 7lb off his back.
Race 3 No10 KEEP SINGING (Each Way)
Trainer: Stan Moore – Jockey: Josephine Gordon
It was over course and distance that KEEP SINGING dead-heated and then had the race taken away from her in marginal interference which is an injustice her connections are keen to avenge. In colours made famous by three times Irish Grand National winner Brown Lad she can get into the shake-up.
Race 9 No4 BOY GEORGE (Each Way)
Trainer: Dominic Ffrench Davis – Jockey: Liam Keniry
BOY GEORGE can’t boast a consistent profile but there’s no doubt he can be effective when getting onto the lead. From the rail in this low grade handicap the seven-year-old might make it to the front and claim a cheque, while putting a couple of disappointing runs on sand behind him.
