Race 3 No12 DOUBLE RED (Each Way)
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Trevor Whelan
DOUBLE RED has endured a chequered time of things in a campaign in which he’s put one foot forward only to then disappoint, but if the sequence holds firm he can run well this evening. A repeat of his third placing behind Great Acclaim at Newbury in June would put him right in the picture, as would his second to runaway scorer Typical Woman the same course in August. This is a belated first all-weather run for the gelding, but he’s trained well on it at home.
Race 5 No3 MASAI MOON (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick
MASAI MOON enters the fray as an impeccably-bred individual who brings positive vibes from the gallops for his first run in the Godolphin silks. While he’s not been done any favours by being handed an outer draw, the son of Siyouni can circumnavigate that particular problem.
Race 6 No2 LEADMAN
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
A step up to a mile can assist LEADMAN as he returns to novice company and moves back onto a Polytrack surface. The Kingman gelding has flattered to deceive on a couple of occasions since returning from an enforced break, but didn’t do much wrong when claiming a minor cheque on a first handicap assignment when beaten just a length and a quarter by Darkness in a Class3 at Sandown.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 6 No5 PRECIOUS LEGATHA (Each Way)
Trainer: Mark Rimell – Jockey: Clifford Lee
Although she showed nothing for her previous trainer in three starts that earned her a handicap mark, PRECIOUS LEGATHA might prove a different proposition on a first start for Rimell and on handicap bow. She’s returning from an enforced absence stretching back to January of last year, but if there’s a plot in this race she could be it. She’s certainly worth a market check.
Race 8 No7 BESET (Nap)
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Joe Leavy
Leavy is an interesting booking for Expert Eye filly BESET who is unexposed and produced her best run so far when chasing home Pure Of Heart when moved up to a mile and a half at Lingfield. She appears to have inherited stamina from the Galileo side of her chart, and connections will be obviously very keen to win with her for paddock value reasons.
