NEWTON ABBOT
Race 3 No2 AIRTOTHETHRONE
Trainer: Tim Vaughan – Jockey: Alan Johns
On a first run over hurdles for two years, AIRTOTHETHRONE can make his mark in this novices’ handicap hurdle. It’s only his third outing over the smaller obstacles, while an overview of his form sees him in the money on a regular basis. He retains the cheekpieces worn for the first time when last seen at Taunton, and is fit from a five-month break since that good effort.
Race 4 No1 GUARD THE MOON (Nap)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
This stable has a few solid chances but none better than GUARD THE MOON. The six-year-old is very well regarded at Grange Farm, and although running past trees on his reappearance at Hexham has greatly benefitted from that journey to the borders. He should make no mistake in a first handicap assignment on the way to better things.
Race 5 No1 MOVEIT LIKE MINNIE
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
MOVEIT LIKE MINNIE was popular in the market before a stylish delivery on his debut over fences at Stratford. It was an accomplished performance that has teed the gelding up for a rewarding campaign, and he’s strongly fancied to follow up from his revised mark.
WINDSOR
Race 3 No2 EARL OF ROCHESTER (Nap)
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: Rab Havlin
The final maiden run at Windsor in the 2024 season should fall to EARL OF ROCHESTER. The Dubawi colt brings the best form to the table courtesy of his third placing in a blanket finish at Newmarket. He was beaten just three-quarters of a length into third on that introduction, and granted normal progression should make no mistake.
Race 4 No4 SARAH’S VERSE (Each Way)
Trainer: Ron Harris – Jockey: Saffie Osborne
SARAH’S VERSE is a very interesting candidate for this sprint handicap after experiencing trouble in running on more than one occasion. She would arguably have won with a clear passage at Ascot in late July, while her midfield finish at Bath last time again saw her meeting interference, but for which she would have claimed a cheque. She’s a ‘hold your breath’ proposition, but if finding racing real estate can get onto the podium.
HAMILTON PARK
Race 1 No2 BAY BREEZE
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Mrs Emily Roberts
BAY BREEZE often attracts support on his winning forays to the track. He’s been going through an in-and-out spell, but if the market speaks in his favour, he could make this a belated first win of the season.
Race 2 No4 ON KEY (Nap)
Trainer: Julie Camacho – Jockey: Ryan Sexton
Cable Bay colt ON KEY is as a half-brother to star sprinter Shaquille the most interesting horse on view at the meeting. He displayed promise when second on his Redcar introduction, and should shake off the attentions of the largely disappointing but more experienced Cugini as the best bet on the card.
Race 3 No4 MOUNT KING (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Sean Kirrane
This Class5 looks set up to suit MOUNT KING whose chance will improve if his pilot chooses to delay his challenge until late. The selection put in one of his best runs of the year when a close-up third at Ayr and it will be interesting to see how he fares on a first visit to this track since joining his trainer from Ireland.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 2 No1 ALL WAYS GLAMOROUS (Nap)
Trainer: Christopher Mason – Jockey: David Probert
ALL WAYS GLAMOROUS has gone 222 in his last three outings which gives him an experienced edge over his opponents, and if breaking smartly from the rail should prove difficult to peg back. He’s just as effective on sand, and can take care of business.
Race 6 No6 WHITELEY WAY (Each Way)
Trainer: Roger Teal – Jockey: David Probert
WHITELEY WAY makes just a fifth start of the season on a return to sand and should be all the better from a needed run on grass at Bath at the beginnng of the month. The daughter of Sixties Icon has adopted the speed of her dam (by Dark Angel). She is drawn to attack in this race around a lap of the Dunstall Park course.
Race 7 No1 CLUEDO (Each Way)
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Trevor Whelan
These colours have been synonymous with much of Candy’s success with a depleted string this year. Their Kodiac filly CLUEDO embarked on a select campaign, and therefore has room for progression. She will have benefitted from her latest start, and can operate effectively from a cracking draw three off the fence from which she can quickly obtain a handy position.
Race 9 No10 NANCY ROSE (Each Way)
Trainer: Jonny Portman – Jockey: Trevor Whelan
Nathaniel filly NANCY ROSE is a speculative choice for the nightcap in which she should start at a working man’s price. She’s finished with more in front of her than behind in each of her seven outings this year but wasn’t beaten far when tackling this evening’s extended mile trip on her latest start.
