RIPON

Race 1 No3 MOUNT KING (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Amie Waugh

Waugh gets a first mount on ex-Irish MOUNT KING and can help make the difference for a horse who has been slightly in the grip of the handicapper this summer. The selection put in his best run of 2024 when third to Princess Niyla at Beverley last month but this is the first time since arriving at Great Habton that he’s been ridden by an apprentice.

Race 4 No3 ST PANCRAS
Trainer: Martyn Meade – Jockey: Harry Davies

From Meade’s boutique yard, ST PANCRAS posted a win on his first outing at Pontefract to indicate he has a bright future in handicaps. The Siyouni colt has taken that in his stride, and as this is only his fifth career start he should have more to give.

Race 6 No2 BURSINEL (Nap)
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: Tom Marquand

BURSINEL was coming back from a long absence when taking away a minor cheque in first-time blinkers at Windsor. If he’s benefitted from that experience he should take care of business in this weak novice.

LEICESTER

Race 2 No2 SPECTACULAR VIEW (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: Pat Dobbs

Appleby has put together a good strike rate with his first-time runners through the mid-summer period, and SPECTACULAR VIEW may well add himself to that list. I can pass on favourable reports about the Pinatubo colt who can repel the challenge of fellow newcomers Nightwalker and Matauri Bay.

Race 3 No2 SOVEREIGN SLIPPER
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Trevor Whelan

SOVEREIGN SLIPPER needed the post when holding So Smart at Chepstow to become a welcome winner for his veteran handler. It was a first turf success for the six-year-old, who despite climbing the weights has a good chance to follow up.

Race 6 No5 KHANGAI (Each Way)
Trainer: Mark Rimell – Jockey: David Probert

KHANGAI keeps knocking on the door for a stable that does well with its small string. The Twilight Son gelding is more likely than some of his opponents to perform to his latest form level and at elevated odds appeals as a win-and-place bet.
