CARTMEL
Race 2 No3 FINEST VIEW
Trainer: Alan King – Jockey: Tom Cannon
FINEST VIEW had passed every test with flyIng colours before her winning sequence technically ended here at the end of last month. Under a 7lb penalty the mare only gave best to Island Mahee on the long run in, but was awarded the race in the stewards’ room. With that experience of the track now under her belt she can beat the same rival.
Race 5 No3 SEDDON (Nap)
Trainer: Harry Whittington- Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr
SEDDON ran a blinder here at the end of last month, jumping superbly and leading round the home bend only to be caught by Fire Away in the final couple of strides. A previous scorer at the course, he can gain his revenge on that foe, who has subsequently been well beaten at Market Rasen.
UTTOXETER
Race 3 No3 POUNDING POET
Trainer: Tom Lacey – Jockey: Stan Sheppard
Dorrells Pierji will be all the rage to remain unbeaten for the Skeltons, but offering better value is POUNDING POET, who landed a Market Rasen handicap hurdle with real authority in early May and has been freshened up by a break. The selection has put together back-to-back successes with a break before, and still has few miles on his racing clock.
Race 4 No2 KILDISART (Each Way)
Trainer: Ben Pauling – Jockey: Daryl Jacob
The Summer Cup provides a hugely competitive feature in which me three against the field are SIROBBIE, NEVILLE’S CROSS and KILDISART.
Sirobbie is fascinating going back over fences after a productive winter and spring in handicap hurdles. If his jumping stands up he will be dangerous off bottom weight. Neville’s Cross looks to make this a fifth handicap chase triumph in his last nine starts and was impressive in dispatching Danny Kirwan at Kempton. KILDISART brings a class element to the table, and though already in a spot of bother when falling at halfway in the Grand National, is very much a horse to have on your side on just a third outing of the year.
Prediction: 1st KILDISART, 2nd Sirobbie, 3rd Neville’s Cross
Race 5 No7 LERMOOS LEGEND (Nap)
Trainer: Peter Bowen – Jockey: Sean Bowen
LERMOOS LEGEND was handed a 9lb hike in the weights after scoring easily over this trip at Cartmel. He landed some good bets that day, and with five wins from his last six starts over fences is very much on an upward projectile and one to follow.
WINDSOR
Race 3 No2 WONDERFUL WORLD (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass
WONDERFUL WORLD has taken two runs to properly come to hand and in this four-cornered affair should make no mistake. Only beaten a length and threequarters when fourth to Devaste at Leicester, he can put his best foot forward.
Race 6 No8 JACOVEC CAVERN (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass
JACOVEC CAVERN has shown promise in his work at home, and though sure to benefit from this first visit to the racecourse can have a say and take home a cheque.
Race 7 No4 KIRILENKO
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: William Buick
Ulysses filly KIRILENKO shaped well in a couple of educational runs last season and can now improve to open her account off a satisfactory earning effort on seasonal return at Nottingham. Off a mark of 75 she has strong claims on this switch to handicaps.
