HAYDOCK PARK
Race 4 No10 AMERICAN FLAG (Each Way)
Trainer: Ed Walker – Jockey: Tom Marquand
Although he is still learning the rudiments of racing, AMERICAN FLAG makes plenty of appeal on handicap debut. In the colours of Stradivarius the chestnut can endorse the promise of a couple of earning runs at Nottingham and Salisbury and make a big jump forward.
Race 6 No14 ANA GOLD (Each Way)
Trainer: Richard Fahey – Jockey: Paul Hanagan
ANA GOLD can play the consistency card to good effect in this fillies’ handicap. Her consecutive near misses at Carlisle, Hamilton and Redcar make her pretty much the form pick, while she has a good draw (5) from which to obtain a stalking position.
Race 7 No7 SOVEREIGN DUKE (Each Way)
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Rhys Clutterbuck
SOVEREIGN DUKE came out of racing’s wilderness to take out a Class4 at Sandown and to show that he is no back number. He clicked with his capable apprentice rider, and the combination can again prove hard to beat.
LEICESTER
Race 2 No5 SUPREME KING (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Pat Dobbs
SUPREME KING stayed on well in a warmer race than this to chase home Mischief Magic at Goodwood. The son of Kingman is going to enjoy moving up the distance ladder and his match up with Berkshire Phantom is one he can win.
Race 5 No2 ZUBA
Trainer: Nick Gifford – Jockey: Graham Lee
You can count the number of Flat runners per season from this yard on one hand, but without question ZUBA is capable of claiming a decent sized cheque if turning up on his A-game. The Dubawi gelding failed to score over jumps last season but placed on several occasions. And while it’s been a long time coming, he can make this a first win on the level on turf.
WINDSOR
Race 2 No10 TESSA (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Rossa Ryan
TESSA has had a few chances and might be vulnerable to a more lightly-raced improver, but having said that her form to chase home Catch The Paddy in a competitive York nursery makes of of considerable interest. She appeared to benefit from a return to sprinting, and could be hard to catch on a track that suits front runners.
Race 5 No1 MAXIMILIAN CAESAR
Trainer: Marco Botti – Jockey: Neil Callan
MAXIMILIAN CAESAR wasn’t stopping when opening his account over seven furlongs at Yarmouth. The horse he beat Hurricane Kiko franked the form with a win last week, and the selection is going to relish this move up to a mile. He can make light of his penalty.
