BRIGHTON
Race 5 No1 CHERRY COLA
Trainer: Sheena West – Jockey: Miss Megan McLoughlin
CHERRY COLA made a good fist of it when denied a repeat win of a race at Nottingham, not quite being able to cope with Alpine Stroll. However, that was her best effort in three outings this year, and suggests she is on the cusp of a return to winning ways.
Race 7 No5 DELAHOUSSAYE (Nap)
Trainer: Brian O’Rourke – Jockey: Pat Cosgrave
DELAHOUSSAYE has a visor added as he attempts to open his account following a string of near misses in blinkers. He’s twice looked menacing without managing to get the job done, but interestingly his best run was on a first visit here, and it would no no surprise if he went one better.
BEVERLEY
Race 3 No1 MILLIONAIRE WALTZ
Trainer: Ben Haslam – Jockey: Andrew Mullen
All five of MILLIONAIRE WALTZ’s career successes have happened on the all-weather, and while his two runs on grass for Haslam were underwhelming, he comes here fresh from a game success at Wolverhampton and is probably better than ever at the age of five. He has a good draw close to the rail, and needs to be taken seriously.
Race 7 No5 MUSICAL ROMANCE
Trainer: Tom Clover – Jockey: Ryan Sexton
Dubai Immo looked a reluctant challenger when third to Athena at Nottingham and is worth opposing with MUSICAL ROMANCE. The latter showed how much she’d improved from a first run back at Kempton when beating all but Tollard Royal over this course and distance. If stepping up from that she will be hard to beat.
NEWTON ABBOT
Race 6 No2 KAUTO THE KING (Nap)
Trainer: Joe Tizzard – Jockey: Brendan Powell
KAUTO THE KING is proving a real stalwart for rookie trainer Tizzard, and returns here with his tail up in an attempt to remain unbeaten for his handler. He jumped with great accuracy when scoring over the minimum distance two weeks ago and will not mind stepping up to two and a half miles, over which distance he scored at Wincanton last November.
Race 7 No2 CRAWFORD
Trainer: Mark Bradstock – Jockey: Jack Tudor
CRAWFORD was largely disappointing when going five races without a win last season but ran well over hurdles at Plumpton last time in a race that has worked out. Better can be seen of him now he reverts to fences, and he can prove a match for last time out winner My Lady Grey.
NEWBURY
Race 2 No12 TESSA
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Pat Dobbs
Havana Gold filly TESSA can earn well in a race that could be dominated by those with past experience. She certainly has that, with placed efforts at Chepstow and Haydock last month giving her a definite form edge on her opponents.
Race 7 No9 LIBERTUS (Nap)
Trainer: James Fanshawe – Jockey: Kieran Shoemark
Leaving the best until last brings me onto LIBERTUS in the nightcap. He raised his game on a first handicap assignment at Lingfield and looks like a horse with more to offer, being nicely weighted to put the narrow defeat by Rosa Mystica at Lingfield behind him now back on the grass.
