RECUERDAME Lingfield Park, Jan 21st
Sent off favourite RECUERDAME hesitated at the start and had a mountain to climb turning into the short home straight. After being switched inside he finished with a wet sail but too late to catch the birds who had well and truly flown. It might have been a different story had he broken on terms.
ROMAN ART Southwell, Jan 20th
ROMAN ART contested this novice stakes as a 22/1 roughie and shaped well in obtaining a mark. He tried to mix it with the disappointing odds-on shot Golden Speech and weakened towards the finish, but is definitely one to consider when he runs in a handicap. His trainer excels with this type of individual and has done well for the owners over the years.
HOORNBLOWER Lingfield Park, Jan 13th
Ulysses colt HOORNBLOWER did not go unbacked in this novice on his first outing following an enforced absence through injury. He was travelling well and nicely poised just behind the leaders when he lugged right and surrendered any hope of taking home a cheque. He stayed on when his pilot corrected him and is worth persevering with, as he’s held in high regard by his shrewd trainer.
MIGHTY MOTH Uttoxeter, December 31st
From a stable that did well with a similar type last season, MIGHTY MOTH traded short in running on debut under Rules in this mares’ bumper. Her chance gradually evaporated in the final quarter mile, but it remains an encouraging first effort and she’s going to have learned plenty. A market check is advised when she returns to the track.
