Neil Morrice: UK Best Bets – Monday 19 October 2020

Neil Morrice:

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Monday’s racing coming your way from Plumpton, Pontefract, Windsor and Wolverhampton.

PLUMPTON

Race 1 No9 CHERRY COLA (Each Way)
Trainer: Sheena West – Jockey: Brendan Powell
West has fared extremely well with the horses she obtains from the bargain basement. CHERRY COLA can prove a case in point in this novices’ hurdle, having been in contention when departing on her first run of the season here last month. She’d shown ability as a jumper by placing on her only other start at Doncaster before lockdown, and has schooled satisfactorily since her spill.
Race 6 No2 SPEEDY CARGO (Nap)
Trainer: Warren Greatrex – Jockey: Harry Bannister
SPEEDY CARGO has earned in all but one of his races since being equipped with headgear. He showed gritty determination to get the job done at Cartmel in the summer and returns fresh and fancied from a short break. This is a tightly-knit handicap chase but he can follow-up at the main expense of Commit Or Quit.

PONTEFRACT

Race 1 No1 OUT THE HAT (Naas)
Trainer: Jedd O’Keeffe – Jockey: J Garrity
OUT THE HAT holds outstanding claims in this after winning at Hamilton and placing at York and latterly back in Scotland. The son of Helmet faces mainly inexperienced foes, and though carrying a penalty should know too much for them.

Race 6 No1 PENNY POT LANE
Trainer: Richard Whitaker – Jockey: Lewis Edmunds
PENNY POT LANE was all heart when notching a third success here at the beginning of the month, going clear but having to dig deep to repel Paddy Power by a short head. The mare has been in good form through the autumn, also recording a couple of near-misses here and at Ripon. She goes into battle off a new mark but is in the mood to follow-up.
Race 7 No8 ROUND THE ISLAND (Each Way)
Trainer: Richard Whitaker – Jockey: Lewis Edmunds
With five successes at the course ROUND THE ISLAND has become a standing dish here. He regularly finds winning form in the autumn and has signalled with frame finishes in each of his last three starts that he’s on the cusp of a return to the winner’s circle. All ground conditions come the same to him but he’s especially effective in the soft.
WINDSOR

Race 5 No3 VIADUCT (Nap)
Trainer: Martyn Meade – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
As an unexposed recent winner there’s plenty to like about VIADUCT who can surely only get better. His clear cut Bath triumph was a first outing since obtaining a mark and that handicap debut promised of more to come. With so few miles on the clock and the champion jockey on board he has plenty going for him.
Race 7 No12 DANCING JO
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Oliver Timms
On only a fifth start of the season DANCING JO makes appeal at a double figure price. After placing at this course and Lingfield he’s not enjoyed the rub of the green and at Bath last time came back with a genuine excuse. While the draw could have been kinder to him today, he’s in good heart and should run well.

WOLVERHAMPTON

Race 4 No1 STEELRIVER (Nap)
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: Tom Eaves
STEELRIVER belied his 25-1 odds to finish third in a Class 3 when coming off a near 100-day break at the start of this month. It signalled he’s ready to regain the form that saw him complete a hat-trick earlier in the year, and now dropped in class he can produce his notable finishing kick to take the spoils.

Race 9 No4 DOLLAR BID (Each Way)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: William Buick
Frankel colt DOLLAR BID proved disappointing on seasonal return at Chelmsford and needs to show that to be all wrong. However, based on the standard of his homework he can raise his game against previous winners Ajyaall and Driving Force.
