Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Sunday’s racing coming your way from Fakenham and Southwell.
FAKENHAM
Race 2 No8 JONJOELA (Nap)
Trainer: Alex Hales – Jockey: Harry Bannister
If ever there was a chance for JONJOELA to get back to winning ways then this is it. The consistent nine-year-old has looked a different hors3 since moving to this yard, notching a cosy success at Plumpton and returning from exactly a year off to finish second in similar contests here and at Market Rasen.
Race 6 No7 MACFIN
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Jordan Nailor
Placed on only career start in a Bangor bumper, MACFIN faces a field of mainly equally inexperienced foes and is fancied to deliver. In finishing third to Flann the gelding went down by just threequarters of a length and is going to be fine tuned for this first run over jumps.
SOUTHWELL
Race 1 No3 LUSCIFER
Trainer: Tony Carroll – Jockey: Luke Morris
Having won three of his last four starts LUSCIFER stands apart from the rest in this race round a bend. Important to his chance of again defying the handicapper is that he adores the deep Fibresand surface and boasts two course and distance triumphs here. He’s been raised 5lb for the latest when he looked good value for his margin of victory, and can win again.
Race 2 No5 DABIRSTAR (Nap)
Trainer: Karl Burke – Jockey: Harrison Shaw
DABIRSTAR shaped with abundant promise when second on her Newcastle debut. Though no match for Majestic Tejaan the Dabirsim filly put in a performance that augers well for her clash with Nelson Gay in what could prove a strictly two horse affair.
Race 5 No1 SPRING ROMANCE
Trainer: Mike Appleby – Jockey: Laura Pearson
SPRING ROMANCE can make this a fifth success from his last six outings and defy 5lb penalty for a cosy conversion here last week. He’s gone off a well backed favourite on all but one of his outings for this trainer and shows no sign of stopping, while his cause might be aided by a new apprentice whose presence alleviates that latest penalty.
