Neil Morrice: UK Racing Tips – Friday 14 June 2019

Jockey rides horse

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Friday’s racing at York, Chepstow, Goodwood, Sandown and Aintree.

York Best Bets

Race 3: SIR GORDON (11)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Silvestre de Sousa

A gelding operation seems to have had the desired effect on SIR GORDON who left his debut form behind to run Shani to a neck in a Goodwood seller his trainer had won three years in succession. Without a sluggish start it might have been a different outcome and he is going to relish the step up to six furlongs here.

Race 6: PASS THE GIN (7)
Trainer: Andrew Balding
Jockey: Silvestre de Sousa

de Sousa’s presence looks a tip in itself on PASS THE GIN who deserves a change of luck following frame finishes in each of her four outings this season. She should enjoy the ground and the galloping track.

Chepstow Best Bets

Race 1: ACCOMPLICE (7)
Trainer: Michael Blanchard
Jockey: David Probert

The game and genuine ACCOMPLICE can raise her game to post an overdue victory. She compromised her chance with a slow start at Bath last time but stayed on to finish third, beaten only threequarters of a length by the winner Princess Way. Although a couple of her rivals come off recent wins the value play is Accomplice.

Race 3: INDIAN CREAK (3)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Pat Dobbs

Like many of his trainer’s juveniles, INDIAN CREAK stepped up markedly from his debut to chase home Golden Horde in a big field of maidens at Windsor. He’ll encounter completely different ground but that form line is easily the best on offer. It will take something decent from the newcomers to stop him opening his account.

Goodwood Best Bet

Race 2: DECORA (2)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: David Egan

The stoutly bred DECORA would have finished closer on her debut at Lingfield but for meeting interference and this daughter of dual Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Conduit will be much wiser now. In this much smaller field her jockey should be able to plan his line of attack. She is a confident choice.

Sandown Best Bets

Race 3: OUZO (1)
Trainer: Richard Hannon
Jockey: Sean Levey

Everything points to another win from OUZO who was taking on better than these when costly landing a Class 4 at Nottingham and disposing of a decent foe in King Ademar. The stable’s horses are going nicely on the cusp of Royal Ascot, and while Ouzo won’t be going there he should make short work of his foes on the easy ground he likes under a 6lb penalty.

Race 7: LUCK OF CLOVER (3)
Trainer: Andrew Balding
Jockey: Oisin Murphy

There are plenty of reasons to side with LUCK OF CLOVER whose style of racing suggests she will greatly enjoy this step up to a mile and threequarters. Although beaten twice off this mark, she only needs to show she can handle the cut on the ground to go very close.

Aintree Best Bets

Race 4: GROVEMAN (4)
Trainer: Jedd O’Keeffe
Jockey: Billy Garrity

GROVEMAN has run several good races in defeat and looks to be in the perfect spot to put the record straight in a race that has cut up. A hold-up horse who is proven on soft ground, he put in the latest of a series of fine efforts in defeat to chase home Magna Cartor at Southwell. It’s only a matter of time before he puts his head in front.
