Lingfield Best Bets

Race 2: SPIRIT OF ZEBEDEE (10)
Trainer: John Quinn
Jockey: Jason Hart

Long distance traveller SPIRIT OF ZEBEDEE scored with plenty in hand over course and distance last time, prompting connections to try to strike again while the iron’s hot. Although drawn widest but two, the six-year-old has slow starters inside him, can get to the front and defy a 6lb penalty.

Race 4: KING’S ADVICE (4)
Trainer: Mark Johnston
Jockey: Joe Fanning

A similar situation awaits KING’S ADVICE who carries a 6lb penalty for a wide margin Kempton triumph. He made virtually all on that occasion and can serve up a repeat dose. He looks more than capable in current mood of running up a sequence.

Fontwell Park Best Bets

Race 5: ESPOIR DE LOIRE (5)
Trainer: Ben Pauling
Jockey: Nico de Boinville

Following a gritty success over this trip at Warwick, ESPRIT DE LOIR is placed to carry on the good work on only a fifth start of the season. He’s always promised to appreciate the better ground he’ll encounter today, and should have more scope for progression than in-form rivals Manning Estate and Steel Bob.

Race 6: SHINTORI (2)
Trainer: Jack Barber
Jockey: Nick Schofield

Often the subject of exaggerated hold-up riding, SHINTORI needs things to fall right, but a likely strong pace from Bally Lagan can tee things up nicely for his best work at the business end to prove sufficient for a return to the winner’s circle. Bally Lagan may himself prove the main threat, as he showed definite signs of a revival last time.

Newcastle Best Bets

Race 1: ECHO (6)
Trainer: Jedd O’Keeffe
Jockey: J Garrity

Such was the dominance of ECHO when he beat Nevada over this course and distance last month that it’s hard to imagine the latter being able to turn the tables. The selection started an unconsidered 33-1 roughie but it was clear from a long way out that his jockey was holding a double handful. When let down approaching the final furlong, he quickly put the race to bed. The blinkered four-year-old can pay to follow.

Race 4: TRINITY STAR (7)
Trainer: Karen McLintock
Jockey: PJ McDonald

Unlucky not to win more than once last season, TRINITY STAR returns in a tricky heat but the eight-year-old is considered forward enough after a 270-day absence to do himself justice. He needs to be waited with before being produced late, and will be making his bid in the final 400 metres. Success would be a blessing for the stable, who lost Rockwood in a road accident on the way back from Market Rasen.
