PREVIEW: Grade 2 WSB 1900 Headlines South Africa’s Weekend Racing Programme

11 of the 12 runners in Saturday’s Grade 2 WSB 1900 are Hollywoodbets Durban July entries. The race serves as an all-important ‘preferential consideration’ ticket and strategic prep into the 2200m spectacular on 1 July, and there will thus be plenty of interest!

50 Days To Go Until The Big One!

With 50 days to go to Africa’s greatest horseracing event, the interest and debate has been heightened to a point where everybody’s speculating about a possible big race winner.

Saturday’s Gr2 WSB 1900 could certainly uncover a hidden gem or two in that regard!

One that springs to mind is Peter Muscutt’s progressive QUASIFORSURE who was ultra-impressive when winning his last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

The son of Quasillo tries the 1900m for the first time on Saturday and if seeing out the extra distance, he should be involved.

In a bizarre finish where QUASIFORSURE’S rider lost concentration, PACAYA got up to win the Listed Gordon’s Gin Jet Master Stakes during the Cape summer.

Check out the replay of that race below:

Winning Form’s Bets Bet For Hollywoodbets Greyville

Race 9: PONTE PIETRA (10)
Trainer: Dean Kannemeyer | Jockey: Keagan de Melo

PONTE PIETRA has produced two good runs since winning his maiden over this distance at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. He lost a length leaving the start last time, but the manner in which he finished off his race was encouraging. He would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. He takes a drop back in class and despite his wide draw of 10, he should be too good for this field.

HOMELEY GIRL To Take Out Syringa Handicap?

The Listed Syringa Handicap heads the Turffontein inside track programme on Sunday.

Johan Janse van Vuuren’s HOMELY GIRL stayed on to place last time and finished second in her only attempt over Sunday’s track-and-trip. National log leader Keagan de Melo is likely to race her from a forward position from her wide draw and she looks to have a big chance of finding the number 1 box.

Race 6: SHOEMAKER (1)
Trainer: Mike de Kock | Jockey: Keagan de Melo

SHOEMAKER is the best bet on the programme. He showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1160m on the Standside course. He was slow into stride, but the manner in which he finished off his race that day was encouraging. The son of Gimmethegreenlight will love the return to the mile. He is the best weighted runner in this contest and should take a power of beating.

Punters’ Challenge

The Hollywoodbets Punters’ Challenge is now run on all of the above-mentioned local race meetings, as well as on Singapore and Hong Kong fixtures.

Sha Tin gets underway at 07:00 on Saturday, while the Kranji meeting starts at 06:00 on Sunday.

The new prize payouts formula means that besides the R5 000 daily must-be-won prize, which is allocated to the top 20 finishers on the leaderboard for every challenge race meeting, the all-or-nothing 100% clean sheet jackpot prize will now be determined by the number of runners at the race meeting, multiplied by R10 000 per unit, for all venues.

And as an added incentive, every player who wagers R50 or more on the Bet Slip generated by the Hollywoodbets Punters’ Challenge entry, will automatically have their potential winning payout from the competition, doubled!
