With the HK$25 million Gr1 FWD QEII Cup taking place at Sha Tin this weekend, we look back to the 24th April 2005, and the day Anthony Delpech rode VENGEANCE OF RAIN to victory for trainer David Ferraris.





Anthony Delpech is a former champion jockey in South Africa, having won the Jockey Championship title three times, four Vodacom Durban July’s, and many feature races in Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai and Mauritius. He is currently a brand ambassador for Hollywoodbets.

Interesting facts about this race:

All four jockeys that finished in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th – were South African based jockeys! They were Anthony Delpech, Weichong Marwing, Felix Coetzee and Glyn Schofield respectively.

The horse that finished in 2nd place was the Mike de Kock trained GREYS INN, which Anthony Delpech had ridden to victory in the 2004 Vodacom Durban July!

Vengeance Of Rain was trained by South African born trainer David Ferraris. This horse would retire with victories in the Hong Kong Derby (2005), Hong Kong Champions & Chater Cup (2005), Hong Kong Cup (2005), Hong Kong Gold Cup (2007), and Dubai Sheema Classic (2007).

It was Anthony Delpech’s son Damon’s birthday on the day he rode this winner.
