Race 3: DREAM AWAY(5)
Jockey: Sean CORMACK – Trainer: Dennis DRIER

DREAM AWAY has been slow off in both his starts to date but stayed on nicely for third against winners over six furlongs at Clairwood, second time out. He was still very green that day and would have come on further from that effort. The son of Judpot drops to maiden company today and is bred to relish this extra furlong. He must rate as a major contender here but cannot afford to be slow into stride.

Jockey: Sean CORMACK – Trainer: Dennis DRIER

BADGER FRIENDLY is the form selection as he holds many of today’s rivals safe on that last meeting behind Alexander. The son of Victory Moon has improved since going over ground but he was still no match for his conqueror when nine lengths adrift in second over the Clairwood 2500m, last time out.

Jockey: Stuart RANDOLPH – Trainer: Alec LAIRD

DESERT RAPTOR is a smart, late maturing sort that has found his best form since his lengthy 35 week absence. The son of Silvano won his last start over this trip on the Highveld more easily than the margin suggests and may have escaped with only the minimum two pound penalty. He has handled similar opposition well in the past and should give a very good account of himself. He has previously thrived in KZN and has a big chance, if he handles this track.

Jockey: Athandiwe MGUDLWA – Trainer: Garth PULLER

This is an intriguing contest as the principle contenders are all drawn unfavourably on the outside of the track. However, there was much to be admired about BREEDERS CUP’s debut over this c & d, four weeks ago. He went off unfancied at huge odds but ran on eye-catchingly for second behind a highly regarded sort. Interestingly, the third placed runner was more than three lengths adrift but was victorious on the Vaal sand, a mere eight days later. This son of Miesque’s Approval would have come on nicely with that experience and should have plenty more to offer today. Having said that, it will be interesting to see his jockey’s tactics from his unfavourable draw.

Race 5: SUPREME LORD(8) (Each Way)
Jockey: Donovan DILLON – Trainer: Garth PULLER

SUPREME LORD is starting to shape again and ran on steadily for fourth over seven furlongs on the inside course, four weeks ago. He has always been rated by his conditioner and his maiden victory came over this trip at just the fifth time of asking. He has reached a competitive mark and should be very effective in this contest with a 1.5kgs claiming apprentice as well as a handy draw.
