Winning Form Best Bets

Race 1: CALLADDI(4)
Race 2: BLACK BISCUIT(1)
Race 7: MAGICAL BET(1)
Race 8: ROYAL ZULU GUARD(9)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: VARALLO(1)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Charles LAIRD

The speedy VARALLO landed the betting coup when he kept on well to win his debut in soft conditions over five furlongs on this course last month. The Var colt was understandably green and would have come on appreciably from the outing. He should handle today’s extra furlong and the rise in class.

TOP BET
Race 2: NEPTUNE’S RAIN(3)
Jockey: Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

This is a highly competitive juvenile plate for fillies but two runners in the form of NEPTUNE’S RAIN and ON THE BOUNCE could dominate the outcome. The former drifted in the betting market but produced a strong finish to narrowly win her debut in soft conditions over this c & d four weeks ago. It was a win full of merit as she jumped outwards at the start but proved that she could be well above-average. Interestingly, the 3rd placed finisher and subsequent winner Simply Scrumptious (runs in race 1) was just under two lengths behind her that day and the same rival defeated ON THE BOUNCE over the same track & trip but receiving 1.5kgs more. The inmate from the Howells camp should make natural progress.

Race 4: KHETIWE(3)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Paul LAFFERTY

KHETIWE has done really well since arriving in this province and she was pipped in her most recent effort. She reverts to sprinting today and has huge claims, with the one reservation being that she won’t be equipped with blinkers. That said, her top jockey Marcus retains the ride and the pair could still take all the beating.

Race 9: VENICE IN MAY(1)

Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Gareth VAN ZYL

The natural frontrunner VENICE IN MAY has shown decent ability on both local surfaces and he is better with blinkers. He stayed on for 3rd when perhaps just needing his comeback run four weeks ago. The son of Philanthropist colt will prefer this rise in distance and he should go close with Marcus up from a good draw.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 7: FORBIDDEN DUEL(6)

Jockey: Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

The staying filly FORBIDDEN DUEL has a good c & d record and she wasn’t disgraced at a much higher level when running on for 3rd in yielding conditions two weeks ago. She was well beaten on that occasion, also against male rivals, but was just a length and a half adrift of the runner-up Serissa. The inmate from the Duncan Howells yard drops heavily in class now and she holds huge claims, especially if the pace is decent. She finished exactly one length in front of subsequent winner CALABASH over this track & trip in her penultimate outing and is 0.5kg to the good.
