Race 10: SHOGUN(8)

TOP BET
Race 3: ONLINE(9)
Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

ONLINE is a very well-related filly who has produced two smart efforts to date. She expectedly built on her useful debut against winners, when running on well for 2nd over six furlongs in open company, second time out. That formline was given a huge boost when the 11th placed finisher Sultry won very impressively on the Highveld a mere six days later. This daughter of Trippi is clearly above-average and she should love today’s extra furlong. She has experience around the turn and could take some beating despite her wide draw. She could certainly be worth following.

Race 4: AVAST(2)
Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Therese MITCHLEY

The long-time maiden AVAST probably found the seven furlongs too sharp for her last time but she had smart form prior to that, including two solid efforts on this track. She runs well for in-form Yeni and must rate a threat in this ordinary line-up. She has the beating of fellow maiden straggler PALACE MYSTERY on the Esperanza Fire run over a mile on this course.

Race 5: JUDDERING ANGEL(1)

Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN

JUDDERING ANGEL was expected to do more on the polytrack in his last two starts but the switch back to the grass should make the difference today. The Cape resident had posted two cracking efforts on this track prior to those last two showings and he was rather leniently docked two pounds in his merit rating. The Judpot gelding should go close in this field despite his wide draw and big mass. He runs well for Delpech.

Race 10: SHOGUN(8)
Jockey: Sean VEALE – Trainer: Dennis DRIER

The lighty raced four-year old gelding SHOTGUN has improved smartly with each effort and he produced an excellent handicap debut effort over this c & d, six weeks ago. The Dennis Drier inmate had some excuses on that occasion but he still challenged strongly when going down a head to PANZA (0.5kg worse off) in a thrilling finish. The son of Dynasty was returning from a 19-week break so he will strip much fitter and clearly has more scope for improvement.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: OLE GUNNAR(4)

Jockey: Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: Paul LAFFERTY

As expected, the smart OLE GUNNAR bounced back to form in his comeback run after being gelded. The son of Second Empire clearly didn’t enjoy the sedate gallop over this c & d that day but he still ran on in eye-catching fashion and can build on that improvement. He was soundly beaten by today’s likely favourite NEW HAMPSHIRE in his penultimate outing but is now a whopping 8kgs better off with that rival for the 6.05 lengths defeat.
