It could pay to follow the progress of Lily And Spice in the previous contest as the top selection here, MAGIC MEMORY finished comfortably ahead of that rival in her much improved second outing over this c & d. She ran on well for 4th that day despite being inconvenienced at the 800m mark and the daughter of Bold Silvano should continue to progress. She did find some outside betting support on that occasion.

WHAT A POET has shown fair polytrack form since his impressive debut victory over seven furlongs on the grass late last year. He finally returns to the turf today and the imported bay colt still has lots more to offer. This trip is right up his alley and he should be competitive.

As expected, MAMBO wasn’t effective on the polytrack last time but he will be an entirely different proposition back on the grass today. He needed his comeback run over this c & d in his penultimate outing and will be cherry-ripe. The Duncan Howells inmate has shown some decent form, including winning over 1950m on this track three starts ago, only to lose the race in the boardroom. He has cracked the best draw today and Anton Marcus retains the ride.Jockey: K DE MELO – Trainer: L ROBERTS
DALE HOUSE wasn’t disgraced in a competitive mile contest on the polytrack last time and that formline could certainly be worth following. He seems more effective on the grass though and he fought back well when collared late by his rank outsider stablemate over this c & d in his penultimate start. The Kahal gelding reunites with De Melo who should adopt frontrunning tactics to good effect.

Race 1: NORTHERN STORM(1)
A big field opens proceedings on this ten-race programme and with numerous first timers present, the betting market should be closely monitored. However, experience could count for plenty and the top selection NORTHERN STORM may prove hard to beat if suited by blinkers. The Gavin van Zyl inmate has only fair form to date but she faced some quality sorts as a juvenile last term. She will prefer reverting to sprints today and she wasn’t disgraced in all three of her track performances. Furthermore, the bay filly will benefit from a 4kgs apprentice allowance.
