Race 9: PROMISING(5)

Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Sean TARRY

MASTER ARCHER built on his fair debut but he was caught late in yielding conditions over six furlongs at Clairwood, three weeks ago. The son of Jet Master may have met a decent sort on that occasion but that experience would have brought him on further. The extra furlong should suit him very well and he has lots of room for improvement. The obvious concern is that he races around the turn for the first time but he gets Anton Marcus and a good draw to aid him.

Race 7: KING JACE(4)
Jockey: Athandiwe MGUDLWA – Trainer: Garth PULLER

Only a small field of seven runners go to post here but there are at least 2 runners who enjoy setting a brisk gallop and a good pace is expected. That certainly suited the fast improving four-year KING JACE in his last start over the mile at Greyville. The son of King Of Kings was far back in a fast run race when turning for home but he quickened smartly to win going away. He may have escaped with only a three pound penalty and he has his third run after the break. He has done well on this course and he can follow-up.

Jockey: Athandiwe MGUDLWA – Trainer: Garth PULLER

The Garth Puller/Athandiwe Mgudlwa combination could come to the fore once again here. The pair are represented by the lightly raced four-year old MEET AT MEYDAN. The son of The Sheik has shown promise and he was slightly below par when perhaps just needing his comeback run, two weeks ago. That was his first try in blinkers and he gets that headgear on again. He will strip much fitter and should be very competitive in this contest. He jumps from a handy draw and has already posted a victory on this track.

Jockey: Kevin SHEA – Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

PROMISING is improving nicely with racing and she was desperately unlucky not to have won her last start over seven furlongs at Greyville. The daughter of Miesque’s Approval jumped from a wide draw but moved up strongly before hanging badly in the closing stages. That certainly cost her victory as she was beaten a neck at the wire. Shea retains the ride and would have learnt plenty about her from that run. She should love the extra furlong and can make amends today..

Race 5: BAY MARINER(5) (Each Way)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Alyson WRIGHT

There are a few speedy sorts here and there is every chance that they could destroy each other up front. BAY MARINER is most likely to profit from the suicidal early pace and he has already shown a good turn of foot. The former Cape inmate has bounced back to form when he only tired late for a close 4th at Greyville over this trip, four weeks ago. He may have just needed that outing after returning from an eleven week break and he will strip fitter.
