Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 4: PLATE OF PLATINUM(2)
Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Ivan MOORE

At first glance it would seem that PLATE OF PLATINUM fluked his last effort. However, upon closer inspection one can see that he showed big improvement on his comeback run in early April, despite finding traffic problems. He then had a wide draw to contend with next time out and then hated being fitted with blinkers in his next three starts. The removal of that headgear sparked a career best attempt by the son of Albarahin who set the pace before being outrun late into third over the Clairwood 1450m, two weeks ago. He finished only a neck behind HIGH ARROW that day but this extra distance may suit him better than his conqueror and he will clearly represent value in this race.

Race 5: RACONTEUR(3)
Jockey: Ryan MUNGER – Trainer: Dennis DRIER

This is another very competitive affair but RACONTEUR drops to the minimum trip and can show exactly how good he is. The son of Var trotted up in back-to-back starts over this trip and then twice tired over six furlongs, before being rested for 13 weeks. The break would have done him the world of good and his conditioner has cleverly engaged a 4kgs claiming apprentice on him today. His yard knows exactly how to bring them back well from a layoff and he will be involved in the finish.

Race 7: DANSEUSE(10) – TOP BET
Jockey: Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: Dennis DRIER

DANSEUSE has ultra-consistent form and she was rewarded with victory on her comeback run over this c & d, four weeks ago. She wasn’t fully tuned up that day but showed plenty of determination to get up and win close to home. She takes on much stronger here but will strip fitter and has plenty of room for further improvement. She gets a handy galloping mass, a good draw and can rise to the challenge.

Race 8: INFINITE WISDOM(9)

Jockey: Craig ZACKEY – Trainer: Alyson WRIGHT

This contest could turn into a match-race between INFINITE WISDOM and GOLDEN DYNASTY but the former receives 7kgs from her counterpart and that gives her the slight edge. The top rating has shown fair form since her twelve week break and she stayed on for a close fifth over 1450m at Clairwood last time out. She drops to a more suitable class of opposition and has a handy galloping mass of just 53kgs, coupled with her midfield draw. Her stable has enjoyed a good recent run of form and she can pull this off. The latter is the form choice here and she has kept her form really well. She displayed her versatility with a strong late run for second over six furlongs last time but is much better suited to this trip. She was runner-up in a minor feature behind her stablemate in her penultimate outing and has a cracked a good draw this time. The daughter of Dynasty has placed on this course and she is a major threat to the top rating, even under her big mass.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

Race 6: DODGE CITY(9) (Each Way)
Jockey: Juan-Paul v.d.MERWE – Trainer: Pat LUNN

There should be plenty of speed in this contest and that will certainly play into the hands of course specialist, DODGE CITY. The son of Way West is better than his moderate recent form but continues to steadily drop in the ratings. He often gets into his races too late and the fitting of blinkers could be a smart move on his trainer’s part. He drops slightly in class and can upset in this field.
