Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: OLE GUNNAR(1)
Jockey: Tristan GODDEN – Trainer: Paul LAFFERTY

OLE GUNNAR has certainly bounced back to his best since being gelded and he produced a strong finish to narrowly beat quality rivals over this c & d, eight weeks ago. It was rather surprising that the four-year-old was handed the minimum two-pound penalty and he can take full advantage of that today. The son of Second Empire drops heavily in class but his conditioner has cleverly negated the huge mass by engaging a 2.5kgs claiming apprentice. He holds strong claims of following up.

Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Kumaran NAIDOO

ROY’S MARCIANO ran way above his rating in his improved last effort over six furlongs at graduation level, two weeks ago. The speedy Toreador gelding tired late into a most creditable 3rd behind two fair sorts and he drops heavily in class today. The minimum distance may not pose an issue for the four-year-old who should take a power of beating on his peak outing. Top jockey Anthony Delpech gets the ride.

Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Tony RIVALLAND

HIGHWAY EXPLORER was below his best on the polytrack during the winter but he already showed good signs on his seasonal debut in a strong line-up, four weeks ago. The imported gelding finished close up over the minimum distance that day and he will strip much fitter now. He has an excellent c & d record and should get right back to his best form.

Race 8: A WOMENS WAY(6)
Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

A WOMENS WAY is a classy filly who had a fair seasonal debut in a competitive event over this c & d recently. She may have finished even closer but for being carried inwards in the closing stages. The bay filly showed her class with two cracking juvenile victories prior to that, including a feature win second time out. The daughter of Var has huge scope for progress and she can make amends at this slightly lower level.

Race 9: MILLRACE(6)

Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Garth PULLER

MILLRACE is drawn best of all and with top jockey Marcus in the saddle, that is two huge pluses for the son of Lateral who gets the first verdict. He produced a quality penultimate effort over this c & d at graduation level and most interestingly, the runner-up Monte Christo and 3rd placed finisher Well In Flight, won subsequently. The five-year-old gelding represents a red-hot yard.
